Syringoma Removal Korea: Why Bumps Return and How to Choose a Method
Why syringoma and milia seem to spread and come back after laser, how the two removal methods differ, and how to fit treatment into a Seoul trip.
Why does syringoma removal in Korea sometimes need more than one visit?
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Sin Lee, a board-certified dermatologist trained at Asan Medical Center in Seoul and Chief Director of WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong. This article is based on my YouTube video from July 2026 above, where I answered follow-up questions about syringoma removal korea patients ask after their first treatment.
The short answer: syringoma often does not clear in one session, and people prone to it can develop new ones over time. Neither means the treatment failed. It is how these bumps behave, and knowing that helps you plan.
Below I explain whether these bumps spread, why they return, how the two main removal methods differ, and what to know about brown marks afterwards.
Do syringoma and milia spread to other skin?
No. Syringoma and milia are not contagious. What happens is that some people tend to form them, and over time more of them show up, so it looks as if they are spreading.
Why some people get them is not well understood. Milia mostly appear for no clear reason; a few form where the skin was wounded, such as a double-eyelid incision or a scrape. Syringoma is the same: some people are simply prone to it.
Milia in newborns are different again. They are linked to friction on fragile skin during birth and usually go away on their own.
What is a syringoma, and why does it come back?
Deep in the skin there is a sweat gland, on the surface a sweat pore, and a duct connecting them. In a syringoma, that duct is blocked somewhere near the surface. Sweat builds up behind the blockage, the duct swells, and once it is big enough it pushes the skin up into a small bump.
Because the bump has to push the skin up to be visible, syringoma shows most where skin is thin, especially around the eyes. Laser treats it by destroying the blocked part of the duct to open it. If the blockage is shallow, one session may clear it; if it is deeper, it may not.
Milia are different. A milium that is removed is gone for good, but a new one can form nearby. Syringoma also sits deep in the dermis and looks a lot like milia, which is why it should be confirmed by a dermatologist rather than self-diagnosed. If you think yours are milia, see my article on milia removal in Korea.
Laser or radiofrequency needle: which syringoma removal korea method suits you?
Syringoma very close to the eye can still be treated safely in skilled hands. There are two broad approaches, and the choice is really about your life over the next few weeks.
- Resurfacing laser (such as CO2 or erbium): shaves the surface and destroys the blocked duct. More likely to clear a bump in one go, but it leaves small wounds that need time to heal. With twenty or so bumps around the eyes, that means many wounds at once.
- Radiofrequency needle: a fine needle delivers energy only beneath the surface, like a precision strike on one point. Few visible wounds, so daily life is barely affected, but it can miss, so more sessions are usually needed.
Even with laser, syringoma usually needs about two or three sessions; the needle method needs more. If you would rather accept some downtime for a better chance each time, laser fits. If bandages at work are not an option, the needle method fits. Skin thickness also makes a difference, and we decide together at WELLS' warts and syringoma clinic.
Warts & Syringomas
- What it is
- Diagnosis and treatment of syringoma, flat warts and similar small bumps by a board-certified dermatologist.
- How it works
- Syringoma sits deep in the dermis and resembles milia, so it is hard to self-diagnose. It should be confirmed by a dermatologist, ideally histologically, and the removal method is chosen for the depth and number of bumps.
- Sessions
- Usually more than one; the number depends on how deep the blocked ducts sit and the method chosen.
- Recovery
- Depends on the method: resurfacing laser leaves small wounds that need some recovery; needle radiofrequency leaves few visible wounds.
- Price
- Confirmed at consultation
Why patients fly in for it
- A board-certified dermatologist confirms whether the bumps are syringoma, milia or something else before treatment.
- The method is matched to your schedule: fewer sessions with more recovery, or more sessions with less disruption.
- Consultations are available in English at our Apgujeong clinic.

Message on WhatsAppWill I get brown marks after laser?
Possibly, for a while. Think of a scrape: red at first, then brownish, then back to your skin colour. That brown stage is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and a laser wound can go through it too.
It varies by person. Skin that tans easily reacts more strongly, and strong-UV seasons make it more likely, so careful sun protection after treatment helps. A one-off mark usually fades with time. When the same spot is wounded again and again, pigment can settle in and may need treatment of its own.
One more thing from the video: home remedies such as acid pastes can work if the strength and timing happen to be right, but that is different for every person, and they can irritate or damage the skin. These bumps need physical removal by a professional.
How do I plan syringoma removal korea on a short trip?
Send a close, well-lit photo of the bumps and your travel dates on WhatsApp. We can suggest which approach may suit your schedule, and the dermatologist confirms the diagnosis, number of sessions and price at consultation.
If you choose laser, leave time for the small wounds to heal before you fly, and plan sun protection; my video on how to apply sunscreen covers what actually works. If more sessions are likely, we plan which ones fit this trip and when to return.
WELLS is on the 8th floor of the Apgujeong Building, about five minutes on foot from Apgujeong Station (Line 3), Exit 3. Results vary from person to person.

How many sessions does syringoma removal korea usually take?
Even with laser it usually takes about two or three sessions, and the radiofrequency needle method takes more. Some people improve a lot in one or two, depending on depth and skin thickness.
Is syringoma contagious?
No. Some people are prone to it, so more bumps appear over time, which can look like spreading.
Why did my milia come back after removal?
A removed milium is gone, but new ones can form nearby, especially in people prone to them or at sites of earlier skin wounds.
Can I remove syringoma at home?
It is not recommended. They need physical removal, and home remedies such as acid pastes can irritate or damage the skin.
This article explains general medical information from the video. It is not a diagnosis; results vary by person and are decided in consultation.
