Thread Lift Korea Cost: What Decides It? Reviews, Methods and Recovery

A thread lift in Korea is priced by the plan for your face: how many threads, which type, which areas, and anything combined with it. Here's how each one moves the cost.

Why do two thread lift quotes for the same face differ?

Read this before you book anything in Seoul.

By the end you'll know what decides the cost, what reviews get right and wrong, which thread methods exist and what the first two weeks of recovery look like. That's enough to judge which approach fits your sagging and your budget.

Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, Medical Director · M.D., Ph.D. at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I'm a board-certified dermatologist, trained and certified at Seoul National University Hospital.

At WELLS, a dermatologist consults with you and performs the treatment, we use only genuine KFDA-approved threads, and your face is analysed in 3D before treatment. We opened in 2008 and Apgujeong is our only location.

I wrote this because many people compare thread lifts by the price of a single thread, when what your face needs is a plan: how many threads, which kind, and where they go.

A thread lift in Korea is priced by that plan: the number and type of threads, the areas treated, and anything combined with it. No single figure fits every face, so I don't list one here.

If you'd like a figure for your own face, send two daylight photos on WhatsApp, one from the front and one from the side, and ask what a thread lift would cost for that sagging. Clear photos and your travel dates are enough for a first suggestion.

A thread lift places dissolvable threads under the skin to hold sagging tissue in a higher position. Threads with small barbs or cones grip the tissue and are anchored toward a firmer point, usually near the hairline or in front of the ear. Smooth threads lift very little on their own. They're used mainly to stimulate collagen and firm the skin around them.

That's why quotes move. A face where the cheek has dropped slightly might need a few threads per side along one direction. A face with jowls, a softening jawline and loose skin under the chin needs more threads along more directions, and possibly a different type. Two clinics may also be quoting different units: one counts threads, another quotes by area.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons places thread lifts as an option for milder sagging, with a facelift still the conversation when skin is very loose. I find that framing useful whenever someone asks why a quote looks high or low. The figure reflects how much work the threads are being asked to do.

Thread types, areas and what they can lift

Threads are made of materials the body absorbs over months. PDO (polydioxanone) is the one most people have heard of, which is why “PDO thread lift Korea” gets searched so often. PLLA and PCL threads dissolve more slowly. Each material comes in smooth, twisted and barbed designs, and both the material and the design affect how long the hold lasts and what the thread itself costs. Ask which one is planned for you.

On our menu, every thread is genuine and KFDA-approved. The procedure takes around 20 to 60 minutes, involves no surgery, and the results last longer than filler, more than a year.

The jawline, the jowls, the mid-cheek and the area under the chin are where threads are usually placed. A chin thread lift can sharpen the angle under the jaw when the problem is loose skin. If the fullness there is fat, threads won't remove it. InMode Mini FX is designed to reduce fat under the chin, and I've covered what sets InMode cost in Korea in a separate post. Nose threads are a different procedure and aren't on our listed menu, so I'll leave them out here.

Threads can also be paired with Sculptra. Combined with thread lifting, Sculptra gives a stronger and longer-lasting result. It's injected at support points such as the temples and the mid-to-upper face to hold tissue upward, and it builds your own collagen gradually over the following months.

What decides your thread lift Korea cost

Five things move the total for your case. Most of them are set by your face, a few by your trip.

What changesWhy it moves your cost
Number of threadsHow far the tissue has dropped and how many directions need support
Thread typeMaterial and design (smooth or barbed) differ in cost
Areas treatedJawline alone is a smaller plan than jawline, cheeks and under chin
Combined treatmentsAdding Sculptra or a device changes the plan
Comfort and visitsLocal anaesthetic, any added sedation, a check before you fly

On comfort: WELLS doesn't use unnecessary sleep sedation. The awake option here is Air NOX, oxygen and nitrous oxide with local anaesthetic, so you can stay alert during treatment. Ask whether you'd want it, since anything added to local anaesthetic is part of the plan.

Texture and colour are separate from sagging, and they're priced separately. If crepey skin bothers you more than the drop itself, read what decides Potenza RF microneedling cost in Korea. If you're planning pigment work on the same trip, laser toning cost in Korea covers that side. Thin, dry skin sometimes does better with a skin booster first, and I've explained how we choose a PDRN booster for dry skin.

Also ask whether VAT is included in any figure you're given. To get the number for your own face, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case.

Say you're 54 with early jowls and five days in Seoul

Say your jawline has started to blur at the jowls, your cheeks have dropped a little, your skin is of medium thickness, and you fly home on day five. In that face I'd look first at whether the drop is mostly skin and soft tissue, which threads can reposition, or partly fat under the jaw, which they can't. If it's tissue, threads running along the jawline toward the ear are the usual direction to consider. If the temples have hollowed too, Sculptra there can support the lift from above, with the understanding that this part builds over months.

Now change one detail. Your skin is thin and dry and the sagging is mild. Then I'd be cautious about how many threads and how shallow they sit, because thin skin shows dimpling more readily. Sometimes the better first step is improving the skin itself.

Change it once more: the skin hangs in heavy folds along the neck. I'd tell you plainly that threads are likely to disappoint you, and that a surgical facelift is the conversation to have with a plastic surgeon.

What do Korean thread lift reviews get right, and what do they miss?

“You see the lift the same day” is mostly true. A lift is visible right after the procedure. Part of what you see in the first week, though, is swelling and tightness, and the face softens as that settles.

“It lasts for years” is partly true. On our menu the expectation is more than a year, longer than filler. The threads themselves dissolve over months, and how long the effect holds varies with your skin, your age and the thread type.

“There's no downtime” is the claim I'd question most. There's no incision and no stitches, but swelling, tenderness, bruising and small dimples near the entry points are common for several days.

“Threads can be felt or poke through” is true, though it isn't common. Placement depth matters here, which is one reason to have threads placed by a doctor who plans them for your skin thickness.

What does recovery look like 2 weeks after a thread lift?

You leave on the same day. Expect tightness, a mild ache near the entry and anchor points, and some swelling. For the first several days, most doctors advise against opening your mouth very wide, chewing hard foods, sleeping face down or massaging your face, so the threads can settle where they were placed.

Bruising, if you get it, usually fades over one to two weeks. Small puckers near the anchor points often soften as swelling goes down. Avoid saunas for two weeks afterwards.

By the two-week mark, most swelling has usually gone and the face looks less tight. Skin tone and elasticity keep improving over two to four weeks, so the look in week one isn't the final one.

If you've had fillers or threads before, include the product and the date when you message on WhatsApp, along with your flight dates, and ask how many days you'd want in Seoul before flying home.

Risks and side effects to know

Common, temporary reactions are swelling, bruising, tenderness, tightness, small dimples or puckering, and some early asymmetry. These usually settle over days to a couple of weeks. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons also lists less common problems: a thread that can be seen or felt under the skin, a thread that moves or pokes through, infection, and dimpling that lasts longer. A systematic review discussed in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (2021) reported that most complications after facial thread lifting were minor, with skin dimpling among the most frequent.

As a general rule, wait or talk it through first if you have an infection or acne flare where threads would go, if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners (don't stop them without your own doctor), if you form keloids, or if you've had filler or threads in the same area recently. Tell the dermatologist about any of these.

If, after flying home, you notice spreading redness, warmth, increasing pain, discharge or fever, see a doctor where you live promptly. If a thread end pokes out, don't pull it. Have it looked at, and send us a photo on WhatsApp as well. The US CDC advises medical travelers to arrange follow-up care at home and carry copies of their records before they leave.

The plan and price are confirmed only after the dermatologist examines you in Seoul, and how your skin responds is individual.

Planning your days in Seoul

When people work out a thread lift Korea cost, they often leave out the days around the procedure. The procedure itself takes under an hour, but leaving a day or two before your flight gives early swelling and any bruising time to calm down.

Questions people ask

Before you message us

Can a chin thread lift fix a double chin?

Only when the fullness is loose skin. Threads reposition tissue but don't remove fat. If the fullness under your chin is fat, InMode Mini FX is designed to reduce it, and some faces need both.

Is a nose thread lift in Korea part of this?

No. The thread lift on our menu is for facial sagging, and nose threads aren't listed, so I won't describe or quote them.

Are the threads PDO?

PDO is one common material. PLLA and PCL dissolve more slowly. At WELLS every thread is genuine and KFDA-approved; ask which material and design is planned for your face, since that affects both the hold and the cost.

How long does a thread lift last?

On our menu the expectation is more than a year, longer than filler. The threads dissolve over months, and skin, age and thread type all affect how long the lift holds.

Can I combine threads with Sculptra on one trip?

Yes, people often do, and Sculptra combined with thread lifting gives a stronger and longer-lasting result. Keep in mind that Sculptra builds collagen gradually over months, so its part of the result shows after you're home.

Results and recovery vary by individual. Every treatment carries possible side effects, which are explained at the consultation. Prices are in Korean won, excluding 10% VAT, and confirmed at your consultation. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis.
