Thermage FLX Korea: Will It Suit Your Skin? Cost, Results, Risks & Methods

What Thermage FLX does under your skin

Wondering whether the Thermage FLX Korea trip you've been pricing will really firm up your jawline, or whether Ultherapy would do more for your face?

Read this before you book the flight.

By the end you'll know what decides the cost, what results to expect and when, which risks are real, and how the method compares with Ultherapy. That's enough to judge whether Thermage FLX fits your skin and your budget.

Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, Medical Director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I'm a board-certified dermatologist with a Ph.D. in Dermatology from Seoul National University.

At WELLS a board-certified dermatologist does both the consultation and the treatment. We use genuine Thermage FLX tips and refund ten times the treatment price if a tip is ever found not to be genuine. Lifting is done awake with Air NOX, so you can see the tip and the shot count yourself.

I wrote this because many people fly in expecting Thermage to lift heavy sagging, which is not what it was built to do.

If you can't tell which group you're in, send a front and a side photo of your face in daylight, without makeup, on WhatsApp. Ask one thing with it: "Is my problem loose skin or deeper sagging?"

Send a clear photo and your travel dates, and we will tell you what fits the time you have in Seoul.

Thermage FLX is a monopolar radiofrequency device. The tip cools the surface while the energy heats the dermis, the layer below the surface where collagen sits. Heat makes existing collagen fibers contract, and over the following weeks the skin builds new collagen in response, a mechanism reviewed in a 2025 paper in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine.

Think of a wool sweater washed warm. It tightens a little everywhere; it doesn't get pulled up from one point. Thermage FLX firms the skin across the area treated, and it doesn't reposition deeper tissue the way surgery or threads can.

FLX is the fourth generation of the device. It is also the machine behind Thermage MAX at WELLS, which adds a skin microbiome test, two AQ MAX amino-acid infusions before treatment and a collagen booster serum during it. The AQ MAX data comes from cell-culture tests in the lab, not from studies in people, and that matters when you decide whether you want it.

Who does a Thermage FLX Korea trip suit, and who should skip it?

Because the effect is a tightening of the skin itself, the clearest predictor is how much of your concern sits in the skin rather than below it. Faces that look alike can sag for different reasons, and the diagnosis decides the treatment. Three example cases show how that reasoning works.

Say you're 34, teaching English in Tokyo, and the line of your jaw has started to soften in photos. The skin is thin and a little crepey along the cheeks, and you have a four-day weekend in Seoul. That's close to the profile Thermage FLX is designed for: mild laxity, decent skin quality, little volume loss. One session on the face fits that trip.

Now say you're 52, with heavy jowls and a deep fold from nose to mouth. Thermage FLX alone would likely leave you underwhelmed, because the weight sits in deeper tissue. Here I'd talk about Ultherapy Prime, which works deeper, or a thread lift, and whether pairing one of them with Thermage makes sense for your face.

Or say your face is already slim and your fear is looking hollow. That calls for a careful conversation about energy and areas, not a bigger shot count. If your main concern is crepey upper eyelids, that's a separate treatment, covered in what eye Thermage can and can't tighten.

As general medical caution, wait if you're pregnant, if you have a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device, or if there's an infection, rash or open wound on the area. Recent fillers or threads aren't automatically a no, but tell the dermatologist which product and when.

Ulthera vs Thermage: which one fits your face?

People often compare the two as if one were simply stronger. They work at different depths. Ultherapy uses microfocused ultrasound delivered at set depths, down to the muscle-fascia layer (SMAS) that facelift surgery tightens, so it's aimed at lifting.

A 2025 meta-analysis in Aesthetic Surgery Journal pooled studies of microfocused ultrasound with visualization and found it improved skin laxity, with side effects that were mostly mild and temporary. Thermage FLX works higher up, across the dermis, so it's aimed at firmness and texture over a broad area.

Your main concernUsually fits
Crepey, loosening skin, uneven textureThermage FLX
Jowls, sagging jawline, heavier tissueUltherapy Prime
BothCombining them, discussed at consultation

The device matters less than whether the plan matches the cause. At WELLS, every Ultherapy session runs on the Ultherapy Prime system.

When will you see results, and how long do they last?

Changes typically begin to show about two weeks after treatment, as new collagen forms, and the effect usually lasts six to fourteen months. Some people feel a slight firmness right away, which is mostly the immediate contraction.

What you won't see is a different face. Expect skin that sits a little closer to the jaw and cheek, smoother texture, and makeup that settles more evenly. If you're hoping for a jawline that looks surgically lifted, Thermage FLX is the wrong tool, and it's far cheaper to learn that before you fly.

Risks and side effects to know

Redness, mild swelling and a tingling or tender feeling are common right after treatment and usually settle within hours to a couple of days. Some people notice small tender spots or slight numbness for a few days longer.

Less common, and the reason people search "thermage ruined my face", are burns or blisters, small dents, and contour changes where the fat under the skin has been affected. These are rare and are generally linked to too much energy in one spot or poor contact between the tip and the skin. That's why it matters who holds the handpiece and how the energy is chosen; there's more on what's normal after Thermage, and what isn't.

What review threads get right and wrong

Threads tend to repeat three claims. "Thermage can cause fat loss" is rare but has been reported, mostly with high energy on thin faces, which is why settings are decided area by area. "It didn't work at all" often means the person expected a lift FLX can't give, or the sagging was deeper than the skin.

The third claim is that sleep sedation is the way to get through the heat. Sedation removes your feedback, and feeling when a pass is too hot is one of the safeguards against burns.

If something shows up after you fly home, fading redness or tenderness needs only gentle skincare and sunscreen. A blister, a spreading burn or a dent that doesn't settle should be seen by a dermatologist where you live, and send a clear photo of it on WhatsApp as well. The CDC's medical tourism advice is to plan follow-up care at home and keep copies of your records before you travel, and that applies here too.

If you've had fillers, threads or another lifting treatment in the past year, write down the product and the date and include them when you message on WhatsApp. Add the one question you most want answered about your skin.

What decides your Thermage FLX Korea cost?

The cost depends on what your face needs, and these factors move it:

  • Shot count. Thermage MAX comes in 600 or 900 shots, and the dermatologist chooses between them at consultation based on the area to be treated.
  • Areas. Face only, face and neck, or adding the eye area, which is treated separately.
  • Protocol. Collagen Booster Thermage FLX (FLX with the booster serum) or Thermage MAX, which adds the microbiome test and the AQ MAX infusions.
  • Combining. Adding Ultherapy Prime on the same trip.
  • VAT. Listed prices exclude VAT, and the final price is confirmed at consultation.

Ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case. Name the areas you care about and whether you're weighing Collagen Booster FLX or Thermage MAX.

Fitting the treatment into a short Seoul trip

Most of a Thermage FLX Korea visit is the consultation and the treatment itself, done on the same floor. WELLS is on the 8th floor of the Apgujeong Building, about five minutes on foot from Apgujeong Station Exit 3 on Line 3. Hours are Monday to Friday 10:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 17:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00; Sundays and public holidays are closed.

With Air NOX there's no fasting, recovery from the gas takes about two minutes, and you can drive afterwards. Since redness usually fades within hours, many people go on with their day. If you're building a longer itinerary around flights, the Thermage Korea guide to planning around your flights goes through the days in detail.

If you're comparing clinics, check who will actually treat you. What the Korean dermatologist title means, and how to check it explains what to look for.

Before you book anything, message us on WhatsApp with your travel dates and the one question that matters most to you, for example whether 600 shots would cover your face and neck. One photo is enough to start, and you can ask before committing to a date. When you come to Apgujeong, a dermatologist examines your skin and recommends the protocol and shot count that fit you.

Questions people ask

Before you message us

Does Thermage FLX hurt?

Each shot creates a hot, stinging feeling. We use numbing cream, local anesthesia and the collagen booster serum to ease it, and Air NOX is available while you stay awake the whole time.

Do I need to fast or be sedated for Thermage at WELLS?

No. WELLS doesn't use deep sedation for Thermage. Air NOX with local anesthetic keeps you awake, no fasting is needed, and you can drive afterwards. Air NOX isn't suitable in early pregnancy or with respiratory conditions, panic disorder or vitamin B12 deficiency, so mention any of these.

Is Thermage MAX a different machine from regular Thermage FLX?

No. It uses the same fourth-generation Thermage FLX. The difference is the added microbiome test, the AQ MAX infusion and the collagen booster serum.

How can I tell the tip is genuine?

Because you stay awake, you can see the tip and the shot count yourself. WELLS uses only genuine Thermage tips and refunds ten times the treatment price if a tip is ever found not to be genuine.

Can I fly home the day after Thermage FLX?

Thermage FLX leaves no wound or dressing, and redness usually fades within hours to a day, so a flight the next day is generally not a problem. If you combine it with other treatments, plan around the one with the longest recovery.

Results and recovery vary by individual. Every treatment carries possible side effects, which are explained at the consultation. Prices are in Korean won, excluding 10% VAT, and confirmed at your consultation. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis.
