Which korean face treatment does a dermatologist keep up himself?

Hello, I'm Dr. Won Sin Lee, a board-certified dermatologist trained at Asan Medical Center in Seoul and a Chief Director of WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong. In my YouTube video from May 2026 above, my team asked which korean face treatment I actually get, and this article is based on my answers; translated captions are available on YouTube.

My answer is a short list. I have had Thermage about once a year since my late thirties, I am now doing a course of EMFACE, and in winter I sometimes add Rejuran. Each one covers a different need: firmness, muscle support and skin quality.

What I left out matters too. I have hardly done Ultherapy, because my face doesn't carry much volume and I didn't need its deep effect on the fat layer. The right list depends on your face, not on what is popular.

Why Thermage once a year, and where does EMFACE fit?

Thermage heats the dermis to stimulate collagen, which suits a face like mine that needs firmness more than volume reduction. I repeat it about once a year. At WELLS we do it as Thermage MAX, with an AQ MAX infusion that protects collagen-producing cells from the heat; it is ₩3,465,000 for 600 shots and ₩4,477,000 for 900 shots (VAT excluded).

EMFACE works on the muscles. I am doing it over about ten weeks, and in the video I mention that my eyes feel like they open more easily. At WELLS it is also part of the 3X Upper Face Lifting program for the forehead, brow and eyelids.

If you are wondering whether Thermage is a single treat or a routine, I think of it as a routine. I explain the science behind it in more depth in our article on Korean anti aging.

Rejuran or a collagen-based booster: what is the difference?

Rejuran is built on polynucleotide, extracted from salmon, combined with hyaluronic acid for hydration. After treatment the skin has a strong dewy look, and the polynucleotide supports collagen synthesis in the skin, which helps it regenerate. It is the most representative skin booster.

Collagen-based injectables are different. They are made from purified collagen fragments taken from donated human tissue, turned into powder and then liquid. Putting collagen fragments in does not turn into your own collagen directly, but it gives a stronger push to collagen production and also works as raw material for it.

One caution: if collagen-based products are placed too close to the surface, nodules can appear. They should be done carefully by an experienced specialist. At WELLS the booster we offer is Rejuran HB+, and your dermatologist explains which option suits you.

How WELLS treats it

Thermage MAX

What it is
Thermage FLX radiofrequency with the WELLS protocol: a skin-microbiome test, AQ MAX infusion and a collagen-peptide serum.
How it works
Monopolar radiofrequency heats the dermis to stimulate collagen remodeling. Two bottles of AQ MAX are infused before treatment so collagen-producing cells are protected from the heat.
Sessions
One session; Dr. Lee repeats Thermage about once a year. The number of shots (600 or 900) is set at consultation.
Recovery
Confirmed at consultation. No deep sedation; non-sedation Air NOX with local anesthetic keeps you awake.
Price
600 shots ₩3,465,000 · 900 shots ₩4,477,000 (VAT excluded)

Why patients fly in for it

  • A board-certified dermatologist performs your treatment in person.
  • Genuine Thermage tips, with a ten-times refund if a tip is ever found not to be genuine.
  • Rejuran HB+ and EMFACE are available at the same clinic, so one trip can cover several layers.

Which korean face treatment suits dry, thin skin?

For dry, thin skin I usually start with Rejuran to improve the skin's basic condition. A collagen-based product makes more sense when the under-eye area looks hollow, or when you want more elasticity with a little volume.

  • Rejuran leaves small bumps that usually fade in two to three days.
  • Collagen-based products are placed deeper, so bumps are fewer, but bruising is more likely.
  • The original Rejuran Healer was quite painful; Rejuran HB+ contains lidocaine and pain is rarely a problem now.

For planning a trip, those bump times matter. If you have meetings or photos soon after, tell us your dates and we schedule boosters early in the stay. More detail is in our post on Rejuran HB.

Do collagen supplements and creams make a difference?

Collagen supplements help less than people hope. If you are dieting and not eating well, nutrients reaching the skin drop and the skin looks dull, so collagen can help then. If you already eat well, extra collagen is unlikely to add much, because the skin's collagen factory runs at its own speed; adding more raw material doesn't make it produce more.

The exception is after treatments that boost collagen production, such as Thermage, Ultherapy or Sculptra. For a period the skin makes far more collagen than usual, and supplying raw materials then can help.

For moisturizing after treatment, products with hyaluronic acid are fine, and so are products made to mimic the skin's surface lipids, which coat the skin and slow water loss. Petroleum jelly seals the surface like a thin film, which helps physically, but many people dislike how sticky it feels.

How do you plan a korean face treatment trip to Seoul?

Start with one long-acting treatment and one skin-quality treatment, then repeat on your next trips. Send a photo and your travel dates on WhatsApp; we reply in English with options, and a dermatologist confirms the plan and price at the clinic.

WELLS has been in Apgujeong since 2008, about five minutes on foot from Apgujeong Station (Line 3), Exit 3. Results vary from person to person, and the right plan for you is decided at consultation.

Which korean face treatment does Dr. Lee repeat every year?

Thermage, about once a year since his late thirties. He is also doing a course of EMFACE and sometimes adds Rejuran in winter.

What is the difference between Rejuran and collagen-based boosters?

Rejuran combines salmon-derived polynucleotide with hyaluronic acid for hydration and regeneration. Collagen-based injectables use purified collagen fragments and push collagen production harder, but need careful placement because superficial injection can cause nodules.

How long do Rejuran bumps last?

Usually two to three days. Plan boosters early in your stay if you have photos or meetings later.

How much is Thermage MAX at WELLS?

₩3,465,000 for 600 shots and ₩4,477,000 for 900 shots (VAT excluded). The dermatologist recommends the shot count at consultation.
