Korean Neck Wrinkle Treatment: Vertical Bands vs Horizontal Lines

Vertical bands and horizontal neck lines have different causes and need different treatments. Dr. Ryu explains both, plus the daily habits that protect the neck.

Why does the neck wrinkle faster than the face?

Hello, I'm Dr. Hyo Seop Ryu, a board-certified dermatologist (M.D., Ph.D.) and Chief Director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I was previously an assistant professor at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. This article is based on my YouTube video from March 2026 above, and it answers what patients ask me about korean neck wrinkle treatment: why the lines appear and which approach fits which line.

The short answer: a good korean neck wrinkle treatment starts by telling vertical bands from horizontal lines, because they have different causes. Neck skin is thinner than the average facial skin, we rarely put sunscreen on it, and it is usually exposed. Thin dermis plus sunlight means the neck tends to age sooner.

As it ages, the skin thins, loses elasticity, feels rough and dries out easily. Horizontal and vertical lines follow.

How are vertical neck bands treated?

A broad, thin muscle called the platysma covers the front of the neck. As the skin above it loses elasticity, the muscle stands forward in two or three cords, like bands. The standard approach is a wrinkle-relaxing injection placed directly into those bands.

If you are wary of a concentrated dose, the injection can instead be spread in tiny amounts evenly across the skin, the microdroplet technique. At WELLS we use only an FDA-approved anti-wrinkle injection, and your dermatologist explains the product and possible risks first.

Can Rejuran help neck lines, and why combine it?

For prevention, Rejuran is a good choice. Its polynucleotide works on regeneration and hydration, so it addresses the roughness and dryness that come with neck aging. Rather than a skin smoothing injection alone, I like mixing Rejuran with the microdroplet injection so the neck gets both effects: lines are treated while the skin quality that drives aging is supported.

At WELLS this combination is called Rejuran Tox: Rejuran HB+ (3 cc) plus a skin smoothing injection (3 cc) in one visit. It is ₩913,000 (VAT excluded) with a Korean-made product or ₩1,089,000 (VAT excluded) with the US-made one, and the dermatologist confirms whether it suits your neck. Our article on the skin smoothing injection explains the microdroplet side in more detail.

Why patients fly in for it

  • A board-certified dermatologist examines whether your lines are vertical bands, horizontal rings or both before choosing a treatment.
  • Only an FDA-approved anti-wrinkle injection is used, genuine and in the stated quantity.
  • Collagen-stimulating Sculptra and focused-ultrasound Ultherapy are available when horizontal lines need volume or tightening.

Which korean neck wrinkle treatment suits horizontal lines?

Horizontal lines form where sunken areas and bulging areas alternate around the neck. So there are two jobs: reduce what bulges, and fill what has sunk. Where the bulge is mostly fat, focused ultrasound such as Ultherapy can reduce it.

The deeper, sunken grooves need volume. Filler is the quickest way to fill and lift them, but on the neck it can look lumpy, and the effect fades over time. That is why collagen-stimulating injections such as Sculptra, which prompt your own skin to build collagen, are getting attention.

  • Collagen-stimulating injections look less lumpy than filler, but they take longer to show, so choose a dermatologist with plenty of experience.
  • Some people worry about small nodules with these injections.
  • Collagen-type skin boosters last longer than Rejuran and ease that nodule worry to some extent.

We use only genuine Sculptra at WELLS, and the choice between filler, Sculptra, ultrasound or a booster is made after the dermatologist looks at your neck.

Which daily habits protect the neck?

The neck has fewer oil glands than the face and thinner skin, so it ages quickly when exposed. Moisturize your neck every day. If you play golf or spend time outdoors, reapply sunscreen every two hours; easier still, wear a neck cover or a face-and-neck mask.

Then there is the phone. Looking down at a screen makes neck lines worse, and it is bad for the discs in your neck too. Try to hold the phone higher so your head stays up. A better shampoo or way of washing your hair, on the other hand, will not directly improve neck aging.

How do you plan neck treatment around a Seoul trip?

Send a photo of your neck in good light, with your chin level and then slightly raised, plus your travel dates on WhatsApp. A dermatologist reviews whether you have bands, rings or both, and we reply in English with options and appointment times.

WELLS is a five-minute walk from Apgujeong Station (Line 3), Exit 3. You can read more about my background on my doctor page. Results vary from person to person, and the right plan is decided in consultation with your dermatologist.

Q&A

Questions about this video

Does korean neck wrinkle treatment differ for vertical and horizontal lines?

Yes. Vertical bands come from the platysma muscle and are treated with a wrinkle-relaxing injection; horizontal lines come from alternating hollows and bulges and may need volume, collagen stimulation or ultrasound.

Is filler a good idea for horizontal neck lines?

It fills quickly, but on the neck it can look lumpy and the effect fades. Collagen-stimulating injections look smoother but take longer to show, so discuss the options with your dermatologist.

How much is Rejuran Tox at WELLS?

₩913,000 (VAT excluded) with a Korean-made product and ₩1,089,000 (VAT excluded) with the US-made product. The dermatologist confirms whether it suits your neck.

Can I prevent neck lines at home?

Moisturize the neck daily, reapply sunscreen every two hours outdoors or cover the neck, and hold your phone higher so you are not looking down for long periods.

This article explains general medical information from the video. It is not a diagnosis; results vary by person and are decided in consultation.
