What do men actually get done at a Seoul dermatologist?

Hello, I'm Dr. Hyo Seop Ryu, a board-certified dermatologist (M.D., Ph.D.) and Chief Director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I was previously an assistant professor at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. This article is based on my YouTube video from March 2026 above, where I explain what men most often ask for, and it answers a question I hear from overseas patients about korean glass skin men.

The clear, even complexion that Korean glass skin men are known for rarely comes from one product. In my clinic, four treatments come up again and again: an injection that softens expression lines, laser hair removal on the beard, lasers for sun spots, and lifting devices. Which one matters for you depends on your age and what bothers you most.

  • Younger men: beard laser hair removal, often because shaving keeps irritating the skin.
  • Men from their forties: sun spots and uneven pigment, especially after years of golf and outdoor activity.
  • All ages: lines between the brows and, more and more, lifting.

Why does a wrinkle-relaxing injection come first for so many men?

It is the treatment men ask for most, and in my view good value. It has two jobs. The first is immediate: relaxing the muscle that pulls the brows together, so you stop looking cross when you concentrate. That alone can make a face look noticeably brighter.

The second job matters more over time. When a muscle keeps contracting and relaxing for years, a moving line turns into a line that stays even when your face is at rest. Regular treatment slows that change, which is why I see it as prevention as much as correction. At WELLS we use only an FDA-approved anti-wrinkle injection, and your dermatologist explains the product and possible risks first.

Is korean glass skin men care mostly about beard laser hair removal?

For younger men, often yes. Many want the lower face to look cleaner, and a dense beard makes that hard. Laser hair removal does not work in one session: hair roots sit at different depths, so the laser energy and wavelength that reach them differ, and the beard thins out gradually over several sessions.

There is a skin reason too. When the hair follicles stay inflamed, you get folliculitis, and repeated inflammation can leave dark marks on the face. If you have a lot of acne or keep getting inflamed bumps along the beard, laser hair removal can also help prevent them.

At WELLS this is our Men's Laser Hair Removal, done with the Clarity laser by a male dermatologist in a private room. It is part of our hair treatments, alongside hair-loss care.

How WELLS treats it

Men's Laser Hair Removal

What it is
Clarity dual-wavelength laser hair removal with skin cooling, performed by a male dermatologist in a private treatment room.
How it works
The non-contact laser never touches the skin, so there are no shared tips. Its cooling lowers pain and burn risk, so most areas are done without anesthesia in about ten minutes.
Sessions
Several sessions are needed, because hair at different depths responds at different times. Your dermatologist sets the plan at consultation.
Recovery
Confirmed at consultation for your skin and the area treated.
Price
Confirmed at consultation.

Why patients fly in for it

  • Clarity holds US FDA, European CE and KFDA approval.
  • Treatment and aftercare are handled by a male dermatologist in a single-patient room.
  • Sun spots, lines and lifting can be planned in the same visit by a board-certified dermatologist.

How do men over 40 deal with sun spots in one or two visits?

From middle age, pigment becomes the main complaint. Men who play a lot of golf or spend time outdoors build up sun spots and blotchy marks. A package of ten or more sessions every two weeks can treat melasma and sun spots together and brighten the skin a lot, but most men in their forties and fifties simply can't come that often.

For them I combine BBL with a pico laser. BBL treats the overall blotchiness while the pico laser goes after the darker sun spots, so one or two sessions can make a real difference. Even a single round of this combination lets you go about daily life with a more even skin tone, which is why so many men choose it. You can read how we use BBL for freckles and sun spots, and my article on age spots removal explains how I diagnose each spot first.

Why are more men asking about lifting?

Lifting is the treatment I see growing fastest in both younger and older men. Information is shared online so quickly now that men's interest in anti-aging has risen sharply. Volume loss and sagging are natural parts of aging, and devices such as Ultherapy, Thermage and Onda work on them without surgery.

My advice is to think in years, not in one session. Having a lifting treatment about once a year makes a visible difference over a decade compared with doing nothing. At WELLS a dermatologist decides which device suits your face, and we do not use deep sedation.

How should a man plan a Seoul visit for clearer skin?

Start with the one thing that bothers you most. Even simple treatments can change whether your face looks angry or tired, and that shows at work and in business meetings. Don't treat it as a big project: see a dermatologist early, and anti-aging and pigment care become much easier to keep up.

Send a clear photo, what you want to change and your travel dates on WhatsApp. A dermatologist reviews it, and we reply in English with options and appointment times. WELLS is a five-minute walk from Apgujeong Station (Line 3), Exit 3, and you can read more about my background on my doctor page.

Results vary from person to person, and the right plan for you is decided in consultation with your dermatologist.

Questions about this video

What does korean glass skin men care usually start with?

How many sessions does beard laser hair removal take?

More than one. Hair roots sit at different depths, so the beard thins out gradually over several sessions. Your dermatologist sets the plan at consultation.

I can't come every two weeks. Can sun spots still be treated?

Yes. Dr. Ryu often combines BBL with a pico laser for men who can only visit occasionally, so one or two sessions can make a real difference.
