Spa or dermatologist? How to choose the best facial in Seoul for foreigners
The best facial in Seoul for foreigners is the one chosen after a dermatologist checks what your skin needs and how many days you have before flying home. Spa facials and clinic treatments solve different problems.

What does "facial" mean at a Seoul spa versus a dermatology clinic?
Wondering what the best facial in Seoul for foreigners actually is, and whether a spa or a dermatologist is the safer pick for a short trip?
Read on before you book anything, because the wrong choice can leave you red on the flight home.
After this post you will know what "facial" means at a spa versus a clinic, which questions to ask before booking, what the consultation should cover, and how to fit a treatment around your flight. It should help you decide where to go.
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, Medical Director · M.D., Ph.D. at WELL'S Dermatology & Medical SPA.
We are a dermatology clinic in Apgujeong, Gangnam, open since 2008 and a 5-minute walk from Apgujeong Station Exit 3. A dermatology specialist sees you in the consultation, and your skin is analysed in 3D before treatment.
I wrote this because many visitors assume every Seoul "facial" is the same kind of treatment, when it can range from a spa mask to a laser session.
The short answer: the best facial is the one chosen after a doctor has looked at your skin and your travel dates, not the most famous one.
Send a clear photo and your travel dates, and we will tell you what fits the time you have in Seoul.
Send your photos and flight dates on WhatsAppA spa facial cleans, exfoliates and hydrates the skin surface. A dermatology clinic treatment uses lasers, light or injections that work deeper, and it starts with a medical exam. Both have a place; they answer different problems.
People searching "Korean glass skin facial" or "aqua peel facial" are usually after glow and smooth texture. People typing "facial for redness" or "facial for acne" often have a skin condition that a scrub or steam can aggravate. The American Academy of Dermatology advises choosing an exfoliation method by skin type and warns that aggressive exfoliation can leave skin red and irritated, and can cause dark spots on darker skin.
Here is how common goals map onto what a dermatology clinic uses. The middle column lists treatments on the WELLS menu.
| Your goal | What a dermatology clinic may use | Tell the clinic about |
|---|---|---|
| Redness, visible capillaries | Vascular lasers: Synergy, Clarity, BBL | Flushing triggers, flight date |
| Breakouts | Gold PTT, Blue PDT, 1450 nm acne toning, chemical peels | Acne medication you take |
| Pores, shallow scars | Fractional Picosecond Laser | Days left before your flight |
| Dull, tired-looking skin | Skin boosters such as Rejuran HB+ | Past fillers or boosters, with dates |
| Freckles, sun spots | BBL | Sun exposure on your itinerary |
For breakouts, the order of treatments matters more than the device; our acne treatment guide walks through it. For uneven tone, what skin brightening can change is a useful read before you pick anything labelled "whitening".
Four questions to ask before you book any clinic
Choosing the best facial in Seoul for foreigners starts with checking the clinic, not the menu. These four questions take five minutes to answer from a clinic's website or a single message.
- Who examines you, and who performs the treatment? Ask for the doctor's name and specialty. At WELLS, a board-certified dermatologist handles consultation, diagnosis and treatment.
- Is the clinic registered to treat foreign patients? Korea's Medical Korea portal lists institutions registered to treat foreign patients, and K-MEDI offers medical-dispute mediation to foreigners. Both are worth a quick search.
- Where exactly will you be treated? WELLS has one location: 8F Apgujeong B/D, 842 Nonhyeon-ro, Gangnam-gu, about 5 minutes on foot from Apgujeong Station (Line 3) Exit 3. It opened in 2008.

What should happen in the consultation before anything touches your face?
A diagnosis. Before choosing a device, the doctor should name what is causing your concern, because the same red cheek can be irritation from products, acne inflammation, or rosacea with enlarged vessels.
Redness is a good example of how the decision works. Flushing that comes and goes with heat, alcohol or spicy food points toward a different plan than fine red lines that stay visible all day. Mild flushing can sometimes be managed with medication or skincare. Clear vascular changes tend to respond better to early treatment, and that is where vascular lasers for rosacea and broken capillaries come in: the right wavelength treats the enlarged vessel while the surrounding skin is spared.
The American Academy of Dermatology describes lasers and lights for rosacea as a way to reduce visible blood vessels and redness, and notes that more than one session is often needed. At WELLS, anesthetic cream is applied beforehand, and treatment can focus on one area, such as the nose or the cheeks.

Say you are visiting for four days and your cheeks flush easily. You have seen a famous "glass skin" facial online and want it on day two, with a flight on day four. I would first ask what your skin does after heat, products or scrubbing, and whether you have had lasers or peels recently. If your cheeks react easily, a strong peel or laser right before you fly is a poor fit.
A gentler treatment early in your stay, with a calmer skin barrier by departure, would likely suit you better. If the flushing looks like a condition such as rosacea, I would want to examine it before planning anything stronger.
What decides the cost of a facial in Seoul?
The cost depends on what the facial actually is. A cleansing and mask routine is a very different treatment from a laser or peel, and the method is the first factor. The second is the area and the number of sessions: face only or face and neck, and one visit or a short series. Some treatments need numbing or sedation and some do not, which also changes the plan.
The number of days you can stay matters too, because a treatment with redness or peeling needs time to settle before your flight, and follow-up may need to happen after you are home. To get the figure for your own case, send a daylight photo and your travel dates on WhatsApp and ask for it there.
What are the side effects and risks before your flight home?
Most clinic facials bring some short-lived redness, and the plan should leave room for it before you board. Common effects after lasers and light treatments include redness and mild swelling. Less often there is bruising, crusting or a change in pigment, and sun exposure raises that last risk.
After the Fractional Picosecond Laser, any redness usually clears in 3 to 4 days, and no wound dressing is needed. Other treatments settle on their own timelines, so ask "how many days of visible redness should I plan for?" for the exact treatment proposed, and compare the answer with your flight date.
Sun matters too. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that sunlight can darken melasma and trigger new patches. If your trip is mostly outdoors, broad-spectrum SPF 30+, a hat and shade belong in the plan, and the dermatologist may choose a different laser or setting.
Tell the doctor if you are pregnant, have a cold sore or skin infection on the face, have a fresh sunburn, or take oral isotretinoin. These can postpone or change a treatment, and your suitability is decided at the in-person exam. Skin responds differently from person to person, so a friend's quick recovery is not your timeline.
If your flight date is fixed, send it together with a photo of the area that bothers you on WhatsApp. Those two things are enough for a first suggestion of which treatments fit the days between landing and leaving.

Send your photos and flight dates on WhatsAppHow do you fit a facial into a three- or four-day trip in Seoul?
Put the consultation early in the trip and keep the last day clear of anything that causes visible redness. For the best facial in Seoul for foreigners on a short stay, the calendar often decides more than the menu.
A practical shape: land, rest, and book the dermatologist on your first full day. That leaves two or three days for redness to settle while you still sightsee. WELLS is open Mon–Fri 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00, and it is closed on Sundays and public holidays. If you fly out on a Monday, Saturday is the last day the clinic is open during your stay.
If you also plan a lifting treatment on the same trip, this Thermage planning guide covers flight timing for that side.

After you fly home: what to keep
Keep a written record of what was done: the treatment name, the device or product, the date, and the aftercare instructions. A dermatologist at home can read that record if anything looks wrong weeks later.
Before you leave, ask the clinic one question: "How do I reach you after I fly home?" Save the number in your phone while you are still in Seoul. Keep sunscreen going daily, since pigment can return with sun exposure after laser treatment, and wait on new exfoliating products until your skin feels normal again.
When you are ready to plan, send a front photo and both side views in daylight on WhatsApp, along with your travel dates and any treatments you have had in the past year. Then ask one question: "Which facial fits my skin and my flight date?" One photo is enough to start, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come to the clinic, I examine your skin and recommend what fits your concern and your schedule.

Is a Korean glass skin facial a medical treatment?
At a spa it is a cosmetic routine of cleansing, exfoliation, masks and hydration. At a dermatology clinic, the glow people mean by glass skin is usually approached with treatments such as skin boosters, after the doctor checks for redness, acne or pigment that would change the plan.
Can I get a facial in Seoul if I have rosacea?
Heat, steam and strong scrubs can aggravate rosacea, so tell any spa or clinic about it first. At a dermatology clinic, visible capillaries are treated with vascular lasers such as Synergy, Clarity and BBL, which target the vessel rather than the surrounding skin.
Do I need to speak Korean at a skin clinic in Seoul?
Not at every clinic. WELLS works in English, Traditional Chinese and Korean. Ask any clinic in advance which language your consultation will be in.
What photos should I send before booking a facial treatment in Seoul?
Front and both side views of your face in daylight, without makeup or filters, plus close-ups of the concern. Add your travel dates, previous treatments with product and date, medications, allergies and any skin conditions.
How long does redness last after a laser facial?
It varies by treatment. After the Fractional Picosecond Laser, redness usually clears in 3 to 4 days without a wound dressing. Ask for the expected redness period of the exact treatment proposed and compare it with your flight date.
Results and recovery vary by individual. Every treatment carries possible side effects, which are explained at the consultation. Prices are in Korean won, excluding 10% VAT, and confirmed at your consultation. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis.
