Pore Tightening Korea: Why Pores Widen and What Actually Narrows Them
Pores can't be erased, and shouldn't be. Dr. Ryu explains the three reasons they widen, what to change at home, and which treatments narrow them.
Does pore tightening in Korea really work?
Hello, I'm Dr. Hyo Seop Ryu, a board-certified dermatologist (M.D., Ph.D.), former assistant professor at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and Chief Director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. Many of the visitors who ask me about pore tightening Korea treatments hope their pores can disappear. This article is based on my YouTube video from December 2025 above.
Pore tightening Korea treatments can narrow widened pores and help keep them that way, but pores are something you manage, not something you erase. The trick is to find out why yours widened, because the treatment depends on the cause.
Below I explain what a pore is, the three reasons pores widen, what to do at home, and which clinic treatments help.
Why can't pores be removed completely?
The skin has sebaceous glands that make oil. A pore is the outlet that oil travels through, and pores are most developed in the T-zone. Because they are the normal exit for the skin's oil, they cannot be removed entirely.
Nor should they be. Think of skin after a burn: the pores are damaged, sweat no longer comes out normally, and the oil that protects the skin isn't released, so the barrier can't form. Skin with no pores is less healthy, not more.
What makes pores look bigger?
- Too much oil. Common in acne-prone skin. With stress or poor cleansing, oil stays trapped inside the pore and stretches it.
- Sagging with age. As skin loosens, pores stretch vertically and look larger.
- Bad habits. Squeezing acne too hard damages the tissue around the pore, which can leave it wider.
That third cause is why I suggest seeing a dermatologist early when acne appears, for medicine or for clean extraction, instead of squeezing at home. Treating acne promptly is part of preventing wide pores.
Pore Reduction
- What it is
- Fractional Picosecond Laser Treatment that changes the structure of the dermis to help reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, with Genius RF and Winergy added where the nose or cheeks need extra tightening.
- How it works
- Rather than resurfacing, the laser restores dermal elasticity so enlarged pores tighten from underneath. The epidermis is spared, so it suits skin that is sensitive to heat.
- Sessions
- Confirmed at consultation.
- Recovery
- Confirmed at consultation; the surface is spared.
- Price
- Confirmed at consultation. Rejuran Tox from ₩913,000 (VAT excluded).
Why patients fly in for it
- A board-certified dermatologist first works out why your pores have widened: oil, laxity or damage.
- Laser, microneedle RF, Thermage and skin boosters are all available under one roof.
- Consultations are available in English.

To reduce oil, cut back on very sugary and fatty food. If you want to reduce oil further, there are oil-controlling medicines to take or apply; they have improved and cause fewer side effects than before, so ask a dermatologist whether they suit you.
The most important thing at home is not to clog pores. Avoid very oily cosmetics, don't leave cleansing until late, and when inflamed acne appears, get it treated early so the inflammation doesn't spread.
For a step-by-step home routine, see our post on how to get rid of enlarged pores.
Which pore tightening Korea treatments narrow pores?
When pores have widened because skin has lost firmness and collagen, the goal is to rebuild elasticity. Regular radiofrequency treatment such as Thermage, or Sculptra, microneedle RF and fractional lasers to build more collagen, can bring open pores back toward normal.
Thermage helps pores in a second way. It heats the dermis and deeper layers to support collagen, and because the oil-rich sebaceous glands conduct the energy well, oil output can fall and pores can shrink as a side benefit. Its main job is still firmness, so I think of the pore effect as a bonus.
Skin-smoothing injections can also help. Beside each pore is a tiny muscle; injecting very small doses of a muscle-relaxing medicine into the skin relaxes it, and the pore tightens. At WELLS, Rejuran Tox combines this with Rejuran HB+ in one visit, from ₩913,000 (VAT excluded).
Our Pore Reduction treatment uses a Fractional Picosecond Laser that restores dermal elasticity so pores tighten from underneath, with Genius RF and Winergy added where the nose or cheeks need more. The price is confirmed at consultation.
How do you fit pore treatment into a Seoul trip?
Send a close-up photo of the area in natural light, tell us whether you also have active acne, and add your travel dates on WhatsApp. The dermatologist decides at consultation whether your pores come mainly from oil, laxity or past damage, and chooses the treatment from that.
Once pores have narrowed, a healthy routine that keeps oil in check and good cleansing help keep them that way. WELLS is about five minutes on foot from Apgujeong Station (Line 3), Exit 3. Results vary from person to person.

Can pore tightening Korea treatments make pores disappear?
No. Pores are the normal outlet for skin oil, so they can't and shouldn't be removed. Treatments narrow widened pores and help keep them that way.
Why are my pores getting bigger?
Usually excess oil, sagging with age, or damage from squeezing acne. Many people have more than one of these, which is why diagnosis comes before treatment.
Does Thermage shrink pores?
It can help. Thermage mainly firms the skin, but its energy also reaches the oil-rich sebaceous glands, so oil output and pore size can decrease as a side benefit.
How much is Rejuran Tox at WELLS?
₩913,000 (VAT excluded) with Korean-made microdroplet injections, or ₩1,089,000 (VAT excluded) with the US-made product; the dose is confirmed by your dermatologist.
This article explains general medical information from the video. It is not a diagnosis; results vary by person and are decided in consultation.
