Korean Scar Removal Worth It? Cost, Reviews, Methods and What a Week in Seoul Looks Like
Korean scar removal usually means softening depressed scars over more than one session. After a fractional picosecond laser, redness usually clears in 3–4 days, and that number shapes how long you stay in Seoul.

What can Korean scar removal actually change?
Is Korean scar removal something you can fit into a week of leave without flying home with a red face?
Read on before you book flights or pick a treatment date.
After this post you will know what the cost depends on, what review threads claim compared with what is medically true, which methods are used, and how many days to plan in Seoul.
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, Medical Director · M.D., Ph.D.
WELLS in Apgujeong, Seoul, has been treating skin since 2008. A dermatologist does both your consultation and your treatment, and a 3D analysis of your skin comes before the session.
I wrote this because many people assume one trip and one laser session will erase their scars, or that a red face afterwards means something went wrong.
For most people who fly in, Korean scar removal means softening depressed acne scars with lasers and fillers over more than one session. After a fractional picosecond laser, redness usually clears in 3–4 days, with no oozing and no dressing to wear.

Scars that look alike can have different causes and stages, which is why I put diagnosis ahead of choosing a device. A depressed acne scar, a red mark, a brown mark and a raised scar each respond to something different. Putting all four under one laser wastes your trip.
Risks and side effects to know
Depressed (atrophic) scars are the main target. A fractional picosecond laser creates tiny points of optical breakdown, called LIOB, inside the dermis while the surface takes almost no heat damage, so the dermis remodels without an open wound. For deeper scars, Juvelook, a KFDA-approved mix of PLA and hyaluronic acid, fills the depression right away and stimulates collagen.
Red marks left by old breakouts are usually a blood-vessel problem rather than a texture problem, which is closer to what I describe in vascular lasers for redness and broken capillaries. Brown marks are often post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. DermNet notes it is more common in darker skin and can follow laser treatment, so brown marks call for a gentler plan.
Many people search for a Korean scar cream first. Over-the-counter creams and silicone gels may help a new raised scar settle, but they can't lift a depressed scar back to the surface. If months of cream haven't changed a pitted scar, the problem sits in the dermis, where creams don't reach.
Day by day after a fractional picosecond session
In short, this is the timeline that decides most trips, so here it is laid out.
| When | What your skin usually does | What it means for your plans |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment day | Warmth and redness over the treated area; no oozing | You leave without a dressing |
| Days 1–2 | Redness may persist; skin can feel dry and tight | Keep plans indoors or late in the day; sunscreen whenever you're out |
| Days 3–4 | Redness usually clears | The earliest point I'd put a long-haul flight |
| Weeks to months | Collagen keeps remodeling under the surface | Texture change shows gradually, after you're home |
The 3–4 day figure is specific to this laser. The other rows describe how skin generally behaves after fractional treatment, and individual skin varies.
Other treatments run on different clocks. Juvelook is an injection, so small bumps, swelling or bruising at the injection points are common for a few days. Microneedle RF and other fractional lasers can leave pinpoint redness or a sandpaper feel for several days, depending on the settings. If your plan combines more than one treatment, the slowest one sets your departure date.
How many days should you stay in Seoul?
For a first round of Korean scar removal built around a fractional picosecond laser, the trip math has two parts: a weekday for the consultation, then 3–4 days for redness to settle before you fly. Ask when you book whether treatment can follow the consultation on the same day. If it can't, add a day.
The clinic's hours shape the rest. We're open Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00, and closed on Sundays and public holidays. The clinic is a 5-minute walk from Exit 3 of Apgujeong Station on Line 3.
Say you land at Incheon on a Wednesday night. Thursday is your consultation, and treatment if the plan and timing allow. Friday and Saturday your face is pink, so you stay near the hotel or go out late in the day with sunscreen on. By Sunday or Monday the redness has usually faded, and a Monday evening flight works for many people.
If Juvelook or a stronger fractional setting is part of the plan, keep a buffer of a day or two beyond that. A Saturday arrival with a Sunday departure leaves no weekday at all, and that is the schedule I'd steer you away from.
Before you book flights, message us on WhatsApp with your arrival and departure dates and a second photo taken from the side in window light, where depressed scars throw visible shadows. Ask how many clear days to keep between treatment and departure.

Send a daylight photo of your scars and your travel dates on WhatsAppSay you have a week of leave and shallow, rolling acne scars across both cheeks, and you've read review threads where some people say one laser session cleared everything and others say it did nothing. Both claims usually come from the same misunderstanding: depressed scars soften gradually, and how much depends on their depth and type. In your case I would look at the scars in daylight and decide whether a fractional picosecond laser suits them.
I would also plan the days around the 3–4 days redness usually takes to clear, so you aren't boarding the flight with a flushed face. If the scars are deep, I would tell you that one trip is unlikely to be enough and talk through how to space the sessions.
Why one trip rarely finishes the job
The American Academy of Dermatology's patient guidance on acne scars lists several treatment types and notes that dermatologists often combine them. That fits what the skin is doing: new collagen builds over months. What you see on day 4 is the end of the redness, not the result.
Deep rolling or boxcar scars generally need repeat sessions spaced weeks apart. A single visit can start the process and show you how your skin responds, which is useful information for deciding whether a second trip is worth it.
What can go wrong, and who should wait?
The most common problem after scar treatment in skin like yours is a brown mark, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, especially with sun exposure in the weeks after. It usually fades, but it can take months. Prolonged redness, a flare of breakouts and, rarely, infection are the other things to watch for.
With Juvelook, small lumps under the skin can occur, as with other PLA-based fillers, and should be checked by a dermatologist rather than massaged at home. Raised scars and keloids behave differently from depressed scars, and lasers that help one can aggravate the other.
Some people should wait. If you have active, inflamed acne, treating the acne first protects the result. Tell the doctor if you have a fresh tan, a history of keloids, cold sores on the face, or have recently finished oral isotretinoin, because each can change the timing.
Results and recovery differ from person to person, and the in-person examination decides whether treatment is appropriate and which kind.
Is scar removal in Korea different from mole, tattoo or hair concerns?
People often plan scar work alongside something else, and each runs on its own schedule. A deep mole is not forced out in one session, because that can scar; we treat in several sessions two to three months apart, and how a Seoul mole removal visit works covers that timeline.
Old tattoos sometimes leave texture once the ink fades. PicoSure 755 nm, together with 532 nm and 1064 nm, shatters ink with less heat, and the session spacing is covered in planning PicoSure tattoo removal around a trip. If your concern is thinning hair around a scar line on the scalp, that is closer to scalp treatment options for thinning hair in Seoul.
Eye bag removal, buccal fat removal and double chin surgery are surgical procedures and aren't on our menu. If you have a scar from eyelid or nose surgery done elsewhere, bring a photo and the surgery date, since a surgical scar keeps maturing for months and the timing matters.
What decides the cost of Korean scar removal?
The cost depends on the scars themselves, not on a single fixed treatment. The method matters first: a fractional picosecond laser session and a filler session are different procedures, and many scars need both. The area and depth of the scarring decide how much needs treating and how many sessions make sense. Whether numbing or sedation is needed, how many days you can stay in Korea, and what follow-up you need after you fly home also change the plan.
To get the figure for your case, send a daylight photo of the scars on WhatsApp and ask for it there.
Between the clinic and the plane
The days after treatment are mostly about sun and hands. Wear sunscreen every time you go outside, and don't pick at dry or rough patches. A plain moisturizer helps on the flight, because cabin air dries skin that is still recovering.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises medical travelers to keep copies of their records and to arrange follow-up with a doctor at home before leaving. For scar treatment, that means knowing what was done, on which date and at what settings, so a dermatologist at home can read your skin's progress against it.
When you message on WhatsApp, send one daylight photo of the area, the dates you have in mind, and any scar treatments you've had before with rough dates. Then ask the one question that matters most to you: whether that history leaves room for a session on this trip. One photo is enough, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come to the clinic, I examine your skin and recommend what fits your scars and your schedule.

Can a Korean scar cream do the same thing as laser treatment?
For depressed scars, no. Creams and silicone gels may help a new raised scar flatten, but a pitted scar sits in the dermis, where remodeling needs a laser, microneedle RF or a filler such as Juvelook.
Can I sightsee the day after a fractional picosecond laser?
Expect redness for a few days, stay out of strong sun, wear sunscreen every time you go out, and plan indoor or evening activities until the redness clears, usually in 3–4 days.
Will I be put to sleep for scar treatment?
No. We don't use unnecessary sleep sedation. If you want help with discomfort, Air NOX is a non-sleep sedation option, and you stay awake throughout.
What should I bring from home?
A list of past scar treatments with approximate dates, any medicines you take, including recent acne tablets, and recent photos of the area. These help the dermatologist judge timing and settings at the consultation.
Can scars from eyelid or nose surgery be treated too?
Surgical scars differ from acne scars and keep maturing for months after surgery. Bring a photo and the surgery date. Whether and how to treat a surgical scar is decided at the in-person examination.
Results and recovery vary by individual. Every treatment carries possible side effects, which are explained at the consultation. Prices are in Korean won, excluding 10% VAT, and confirmed at your consultation. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis.
