Onda lifting Korea: what does it do, and where does it work?

Hello, I'm Dr. Won Sin Lee, a board-certified dermatologist trained at Asan Medical Center in Seoul and a Chief Director of WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong. This article is based on my YouTube video from June 2026 above, where I answered the questions people ask most about onda lifting Korea clinics offer; translated captions are available on YouTube.

Here is the short answer on onda lifting Korea style: Onda gives a quick, comfortable tightening with almost no downtime, but its effect is shorter than Thermage or Ultherapy, so it works best when repeated. That trade-off decides whether it suits you.

Onda uses microwave energy. Thermage works mainly in the dermis, and Ultherapy works mainly on the fascia layer under the fat. Onda works in the space between them, which is why it tightens the fat layer and the jawline line fairly quickly.

  • The fat layer firms up soon after treatment, so the face outline looks neater.
  • The skin feels smoother and fresher afterwards.
  • There is usually no downtime, and most people don't need anesthesia.

Why does Onda feel milder than other lifting treatments?

Two reasons. First, the handpiece surface is cooled very strongly. The energy creates heat deep in the tissue, but the surface stays cold, so you feel much less of that heat.

The feeling is unusual. I describe it as holding your face in front of a heater on a winter day: the outside feels cool while you sense warmth inside. Second, most of the energy acts on the fat layer, which is not a very sensitive area, so discomfort is generally lower.

Pain tolerance still differs between people. At WELLS most patients are treated without numbing cream, and the dermatologist adjusts the energy to you during the session.

What is the catch, and how long does one session last?

The downside is duration. In my experience, one Onda session looks good for roughly one to two months. That is why I suggest treating it as regular maintenance rather than a one-off.

A typical rhythm I use: one session, another within one to two months, then another at around three months. Repeating it this way lets you carry the effect for longer. On our Onda MAX page we describe a plan of about three sessions four to six weeks apart, and your dermatologist adjusts it to your face.

If you have an important day coming up, such as a wedding, a shoot or a presentation, I would book Onda about a week before. The tightening shows quickly, and a week leaves time for any mild redness to settle.

How WELLS treats it

Onda MAX

What it is
Microwave lifting (DEKA Coolwaves) for the jawline and a soft double chin, planned so the cheeks keep their volume.
How it works
Microwaves heat the dermis and the fat layer while the handpiece cools the surface in real time. At WELLS the handpiece runs over our own Detology cream instead of jojoba oil, and the dermatologist decides where the 3 mm and 7 mm handpieces go.
Sessions
About three sessions four to six weeks apart is the WELLS recommendation; your dermatologist sets the schedule and the energy level (60, 80 or 100 kJ).
Recovery
Most patients are treated without numbing cream. Mild redness usually settles within a few hours.
Price
60 kJ ₩700,000 · 80 kJ ₩800,000 · 100 kJ ₩900,000 (VAT excluded)

Why patients fly in for it

  • A board-certified dermatologist plans where each handpiece works, so only the sagging areas are tightened.
  • Detology cream (collagen peptide plus CeraXosome) replaces jojoba oil, and you take a jar home for aftercare.
  • Onda can be planned alongside Thermage or Ultherapy in the same trip.

Can Onda replace Ultherapy or Thermage?

Not really, because each device acts at a different depth. From the surface down, Thermage, Onda, Ultherapy and then EMFACE for the muscle together cover every layer that matters for facial aging. Each does its own job.

Onda also pairs well with the others. It reaches a little deeper than where Thermage acts most, and a little closer to the surface than Ultherapy, so combining them gives a synergy. You can compare the two main options in our post on Thermage vs Ultherapy.

If you have to choose just one, Onda fits people who want a quick, visible change and a comfortable routine they can keep up. If you want a longer-lasting structural lift, we usually talk about Ultherapy or Thermage first.

How much energy do you need, and what does Onda MAX cost in Seoul?

Onda is dosed in kilojoules. For a face without much fat where you want a neater outline, starting around 60 kJ is reasonable. If there is more fullness and the jawline needs firmer work, 80 kJ, and sometimes up to 100 kJ.

Treatment time is short: about 15 minutes at 80 kJ. At WELLS the listed prices for Onda MAX are ₩700,000 for 60 kJ, ₩800,000 for 80 kJ and ₩900,000 for 100 kJ (VAT excluded), and every level includes a jar of Detology cream to take home.

We run the handpiece over Detology cream instead of jojoba oil. It contains collagen peptide and CeraXosome, raises conductivity so energy travels deeper, and protects the skin barrier while it heats. For more background, see our guide what is Onda.

How do you fit onda lifting into a Seoul trip?

Because there is usually no downtime, Onda fits even a short trip. Send a photo of your jawline and your travel dates on WhatsApp, and we reply in English with options; a dermatologist confirms the energy level and plan at the clinic.

If you can come back, we plan the next sessions around your return visits. If you want a longer-lasting base, ask about adding Thermage or Ultherapy in the same stay. Our lifting and anti-aging treatments page lists every option.

WELLS is about five minutes on foot from Apgujeong Station (Line 3), Exit 3. Results vary from person to person, and the right plan is decided at your consultation.

Q&A

Questions about this video

How long does onda lifting Korea treatment last after one session?

Dr. Lee finds one session looks good for roughly one to two months. Repeating it, for example again within one to two months and then at around three months, carries the effect for longer.

Does Onda hurt?

The handpiece cools the surface strongly while heating the deeper layers, so most patients feel warmth rather than sharp pain and are treated without numbing cream. Tolerance varies, and the energy is adjusted to you.

When should I book Onda before an event?

About a week before is a good window. The tightening appears quickly, and the week allows any mild redness to settle.

How much is Onda MAX at WELLS?

₩700,000 for 60 kJ, ₩800,000 for 80 kJ and ₩900,000 for 100 kJ (VAT excluded). The dermatologist confirms the level at consultation.

This article explains general medical information from the video. It is not a diagnosis; results vary by person and are decided in consultation.
