What are fat dissolving injections, and why look for them in Korea?

Most people who search fat dissolving injections Korea have a very specific spot in mind: the upper arms that move when they wave, or a lower tummy that has not shifted despite careful eating and training. They want to know whether an injection can deal with it on a trip to Seoul, and what they are actually paying for.

I am Dr. Won Woo Choi, a board-certified dermatologist trained at Seoul National University Hospital, where I completed my residency and later my Ph.D. in dermatology. This is how I would explain these injections to a friend before they book anything.

In general terms, a fat-dissolving injection places a substance under the skin that breaks down the membranes of fat cells in the treated area. The body then clears that material gradually. It is a way to treat a defined pocket of fat, not a way to lose weight overall.

That distinction matters. Firmly settled fat on the arms or lower abdomen is often hard to shift with diet or exercise alone, and that is exactly the kind of area these injections are meant for. If the goal is general weight loss, an injection is the wrong tool.

What WELLS uses: V-OLET, the Korean fat dissolving injection

The product we use is V-OLET, made by Daewoong Pharmaceutical. It is a deoxycholic acid injection, 20 mg/2 mL, given under the skin to destroy fat cells in the treated area. People sometimes call it the Korean fat dissolving injection equivalent to Kybella, because it has the same active ingredient as Kybella in the United States.

Deoxycholic acid is a molecule the body already uses to help break down dietary fat, which is why it has become the standard active ingredient in this category. What changes from clinic to clinic is not the idea, but the dose, the depth and who decides both.

Why we pair V-OLET with Onda for upper arms and the lower abdomen

The worry I hear after "will the fat go?" is "will the skin hang afterwards?" It is a reasonable concern. When a pocket of fat shrinks, the skin that was stretched over it does not automatically follow.

That is why the WELLS program combines the injection with Onda microwave lifting in the same visit. Onda delivers microwave energy to the fat layer and the dermis, contracting loosened skin so the area does not sag once the fat is reduced. The program as listed pairs V-OLET with Onda at 100 kJ, for either the lower abdomen or the upper arms.

Body skin recovers at a different pace from facial skin, so we decide the settings per area rather than from a template. The amount of fat and how loose the skin is are both measured before the Onda energy is planned. Combining the two treats the fat and the skin over it without surgery.

Who fat-dissolving injections suit, and who should choose something else

The program suits someone with a defined, stubborn pocket of fat on the upper arms or lower abdomen, who wants to treat that area without surgery. It also suits people who are worried about loose skin once the fat is reduced, because the Onda part addresses exactly that.

• A good fit: firm fat on the upper arms that shows in sleeveless tops, or a lower-abdomen bulge that has stayed despite diet and exercise.
• A good fit: you want the fat and the skin over it treated in one visit.
• Probably not the right tool: you are hoping for overall weight loss.
• Probably not the right tool: the area you are thinking of is not the arms or lower abdomen. We will tell you honestly which option fits instead.

Fat cheeks and a double chin

A lot of messages ask about fat cheeks or fullness under the chin. The V-OLET program at WELLS is for the body, not the face. For the lower face, the tools we use are different: InMode Mini FX addresses fullness under the chin, and Onda MAX tightens the jawline while the plan is designed to preserve cheek volume.

Buccal fat removal and under eye fat grafting

Buccal fat removal and under eye fat grafting come up in the same searches, but they are surgical procedures and not on our treatment list. Fat grafting under eyes is also the opposite idea: it adds fat rather than reducing it. If a hollow is your real concern, that is a conversation about volume, not about dissolving anything.

The reason is practical rather than evasive. The dermatologist plans the V-OLET dose and the Onda energy for your body and the specific area, and that plan is what determines the figure. A number quoted before anyone has assessed the area would only be a guess.

Where WELLS does list prices, they are in Korean won and exclude 10% VAT. For comparison on the face, Onda MAX starts at ₩700,000 (VAT excluded) for 60 kJ. Whatever you choose, the dermatologist confirms your plan and the final price at the consultation, before anything starts.

How a visit works: WhatsApp, consultation, treatment, aftercare

Individual results vary, and side effects are possible with any injectable. In general, swelling, tenderness or bruising in the treated area are commonly described after deoxycholic acid injections, which is exactly why the consultation comes first and the dermatologist explains what to expect for your area.

Timing fat-dissolving injections around your flights

Of all the questions behind a search for fat dissolving injections Korea, timing is the one I can only answer with your dates. So the simplest rule is: tell us your flight dates on WhatsApp and the dermatologist will advise on scheduling before you book the appointment.

In general, I suggest not leaving any injection to the very last day of a trip. Arms and the lower abdomen sit under clothing and seatbelts, so it helps to have a little room between the treatment and a long flight.
