Restylane Filler Recovery Instructions: Flying Home That Week? Cost, Reviews, Methods
After hyaluronic acid filler, the first 24 hours carry most of the restrictions, and bruising and swelling usually settle over one to two weeks. Inject early in a Seoul trip so those days pass before you fly.

Restylane filler recovery instructions, day by day
Worried that Restylane filler recovery instructions written for people at home won't fit a trip that ends with a flight a few days later?
Read this before you choose your injection day.
You'll know what to do each day, how many days to leave before flying, which methods change recovery, what reviews get right, and what decides the cost, so you can pick a date that suits your trip and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, Medical Director (M.D., Ph.D.) at WELLS Clinic in Seoul and a board-certified dermatologist.
WELLS has been in Apgujeong since 2008. Our dermatologists consult and inject in person, use a cannula where possible, and confirm the product and amount before treatment.
I wrote this because most aftercare sheets assume you can walk back into the clinic next week, and a traveler can't.
Most people can return to everyday activities right away, and the first 24 hours carry most of the restrictions. Bruising and swelling usually settle within one to two weeks, so inject early in your trip.
If your flight date is the worry, send your travel dates and the area you have in mind on WhatsApp, and ask which day you should aim for.
Send a clear photo and your travel dates, and we will tell you what fits the time you have in Seoul.
Send your travel dates on WhatsAppRestylane is a family of hyaluronic acid gels, and the timeline below describes that filler type in general. Hyaluronic acid holds water, so some early puffiness comes from the gel as well as the needle. If your injector gives you different advice for your product, follow theirs.
| When | What you may notice | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Injection day | Swelling, tenderness, small marks at entry points | Keep your hands off the area. Use a wrapped cold pack for short stretches. |
| Days 1–2 | Swelling is often most visible, especially in lips and under the eyes | Skip hard exercise, saunas, long sun exposure and alcohol for at least 24 hours. Sleep with your head raised. |
| Days 3–7 | Bruises change color, swelling drops, the area may feel firm | Normal sightseeing is usually fine. Wear sunscreen. |
| Days 8–14 | Slower bruises finish fading | Judge the shape now. Report anything that is getting worse. |
The first-day rules share one reason: heat, exertion and alcohol increase blood flow to the skin, which can make bruising and swelling more noticeable. Pressure is a separate issue, because the gel can still shift in the early days. That's why I'd skip a facial, a tight mask strap or a face-down massage during your first days in Seoul.

How many days should you leave before your flight?
Leave about a week if you can, and two if you bruise easily or care how you look on your return. This has less to do with the plane than with staying close to the person who injected you while the area settles. An ordinary flight isn't a recognized main cause of filler problems. The CDC's advice to delay air travel for 10–14 days concerns major surgery, so it shouldn't be copied over to an injection.
Our calendar matters here too. We're open Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00, and we're closed on Sundays and holidays. An injection late on Saturday puts your first full day of swelling on a day the clinic is shut, so I'd choose a weekday near the start of your stay.
Say you have seven nights in Seoul, you bruise easily, and you had filler under your eyes a few years ago that still looks puffy. If you did go ahead, an injection on your first or second weekday gives you five or six days of settling before the airport.
Now say you have three nights. It's possible, but you'd fly home with swelling still visible and a bruise that may not have peaked. I'd accept that for a small touch-up on someone who knows how they bruise. For a first treatment in a thin-skinned area, I'd rather you planned a longer stay.
Risks and side effects to know
The US FDA's dermal filler guidance lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and rash as common effects. Many of them clear in a few days to weeks, and the pace differs from person to person. Some reactions can appear much later, including months afterward.
The rare risk that matters most is filler entering a blood vessel, which can damage tissue and has been linked to vision loss and stroke. The FDA says to get immediate medical attention for any of these:
- Unusual pain or any change in your vision
- Skin near the injection site turning white, gray or blue
- Sudden trouble speaking, numbness or weakness in the face or limbs, or a severe headache
If one of these happens at home, go to emergency care first and send a message to Seoul afterward. Tell the team you had hyaluronic acid filler and give the area and the date, because this filler type can usually be broken down with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
As a general rule, filler should be put off if you have an infection or inflammation at the site. Tell your injector about a bleeding disorder, severe allergies, or any allergy to lidocaine. Mention pregnancy or breastfeeding, isotretinoin, a recent laser or peel, and any blood thinner. Don't stop a prescribed blood thinner on your own.
The CDC advises travelers to get copies of their medical records before leaving and to confirm that follow-up care is available at home. For filler, I'd ask for the product name and amount before you fly, and I'd find a dermatologist near home in advance. A lump, a late bruise and a vascular problem can look alike in a phone photo, and a dermatologist should see them in person.
If past filler is part of your hesitation, message us on WhatsApp with a daylight photo of that area and the year it was done, and ask how it affects your timing.

Three things move your recovery more than the brand name does: the entry tool, the amount and the area. Our dermatologists have over fifteen years of filler experience and use a cannula where possible, because it lowers the vessel-damage risk of a standard needle. A smaller amount also tends to mean less swelling, which is one more reason not to treat every concern on one trip.
The area changes what you'll see, so no single set of Restylane filler recovery instructions fits every face. Thin under-eye skin shows bruises easily and tends to hold puffiness, which is why planning under-eye filler around a Seoul trip deserves its own schedule. Swelling is often less obvious on firmer areas, as in how a chin filler plan is built.
The instructions also change if the product changes. Poly-L-lactic acid builds volume gradually over sessions, so Sculptra sessions and trip planning follow a different logic from a hyaluronic acid gel. If you want Restylane specifically, name it when you ask, since the product is something to confirm before you book.
What do reviews get right about Restylane recovery?
Review threads often say the area looks its worst around the second day and then calms down. That's fair for many people, and it's why I wouldn't judge the shape that early. Threads also often say there's no downtime. The American Academy of Dermatology does note that people can usually return to everyday activities straight away, but a bruise can still show at work.
Two other common claims need correcting. Massaging a lump yourself is often suggested, and I'd advise against it unless your injector has told you to, because you can't tell by feel what you're pressing on. Blaming the flight for a lump or for moved filler is also common, yet technique, amount and placement are the more likely explanations.
What decides the cost of filler in Seoul?
Five things move the cost for your case:
- The product chosen for the area
- The amount needed
- How many areas you treat on one trip
- Whether your trip leaves room for a follow-up look
For a figure that fits you, name the area and the product you have in mind on WhatsApp, and ask what it would cost for your case.
Your first message can be short
One photo is enough, and you can ask before booking anything. Send a daylight picture of the area on WhatsApp with one question, such as "Can this be done with five days before my flight?" When you come to Apgujeong, a five-minute walk from Exit 3 of Apgujeong Station, a dermatologist examines you, with 3D analysis before treatment, and recommends what fits your face and your dates.

How soon can I work out after filler?
Skip hard exercise for at least the first 24 hours. Some dermatologists advise up to 48 hours, particularly if you've swollen or bruised. A walk around Seoul is usually fine, but stop if the area starts to throb.
Can I drink alcohol after a filler injection?
Common advice is to avoid alcohol for at least the first 24 hours because it can make bruising and swelling more noticeable. If you've planned a dinner out in Seoul, put it later in the trip.
When can I wear makeup again?
Many injectors say you can wear it the next day once the entry points have closed. Use clean brushes and light pressure, and follow your injector's advice if it differs.
Do Restylane filler recovery instructions differ for lips and under the eyes?
The basic rules are the same, but what you see differs. Lips and under-eye skin usually swell more visibly, and under-eye bruises show easily, so leave more days before a flight or an important event.
When can I book a facial or laser after filler?
Common advice is to hold off on facials, massage and energy-based treatments over the area for about two weeks. Ask your injector, since the timing can vary with the treatment and the area.
Results and recovery vary by individual. Every treatment carries possible side effects, which are explained at the consultation. Prices are in Korean won, excluding 10% VAT, and confirmed at your consultation. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis.
