Lip Filler How Long for Swelling to Go Down? Cost, Reviews, Methods and Your Flight Home
Swelling from lip filler usually settles within 24 to 48 hours and can take up to a week. Old filler, the amount and the method can change that, so plan your injection early in a Seoul trip.

Lip filler how long for swelling to go down: the pattern, day by day
Lip filler how long for swelling to go down, when your flight home is booked and your last filler never sat evenly?
Read this before you choose your injection day.
You'll know what each day usually looks like, how old filler changes the count, and what cost, reviews and methods come down to, so you can pick a trip length that fits your lips and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, Medical Director · M.D., Ph.D., at WELLS Clinic.
At our Apgujeong clinic, open since 2008, a dermatologist handles your consultation, diagnosis and treatment. We inject filler with a cannula where possible, and we confirm the product and amount before treatment.
I wrote this because people often count days from the injection and forget about the old filler already in the lip.
Swelling usually goes down within 24 to 48 hours and may take up to a week, according to Cleveland Clinic's lip filler guide. For a trip, plan around the week.
If old filler is your worry, send a daylight photo of your lips on WhatsApp with the product name, if you still have it, and ask which day of your trip suits the injection.
Send a clear photo and your travel dates, and we will tell you what fits the time you have in Seoul.

Lip tissue is soft and has a rich blood supply, and hyaluronic acid gel holds water. Add a series of small injection points and the tissue reacts quickly. The table below is the usual course for a first-time lip with a modest amount of filler, and your own days may run shorter or longer.
| Day | What's typical | What it means for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| Day 0 | Swelling and tenderness begin within hours | Keep the evening open and use ice for up to 10 minutes at a time |
| Days 1–2 | Often the puffiest stretch, and usually worse on waking | Skip lip products and alcohol for at least 24 hours, and don't judge the shape |
| Days 3–4 | Much of the swelling has often gone, and small firm spots or unevenness may show | Normal sightseeing suits many people, but leave the lips alone |
| Days 5–7 | Any remaining swelling has usually settled by about a week | The earliest flight day I'd plan around |
| About day 14 | The shape is easier to assess | Cleveland Clinic suggests a follow-up around now, and the same lead time before a wedding |
The FDA also notes that filler side effects such as swelling and bruising often clear in a few days to weeks. That is a wider window than the one you'll see quoted online, and it's the reason a spare day or two helps.
How many days should you stay in Seoul after lip filler?
A week between injection and flight is the plan I'd start from. I can't point you to one firm rule on flying after filler. The case for staying is practical: if something looks wrong, a dermatologist can examine it in person while you're still here.
Your calendar matters as much as your lips. We're open Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00, and we're closed on Sundays and holidays. A Friday injection puts your puffiest second day on a Sunday, so an injection earlier in the week may suit you better if you'd like the option of being seen on day two. Ask about that when you book.
Say you land on a Thursday night, you have nine days, and your filler from 14 months ago left a firm ridge in the upper lip. I'd reason like this: the exam comes early, because the ridge may change the plan. If the old product is the problem, dealing with it could take up most of this trip, and new filler may be better left for another visit. If the ridge is minor and a small top-up makes sense, an injection in the first few days still leaves you a week before you fly.
Does old filler change how long swelling lasts?
In short, it can. The usual answer to "lip filler how long for swelling to go down" assumes a lip with nothing in it. Older product can sit where it wasn't intended, and a fresh injection can make that area look fuller for longer or more uneven while everything settles.
Dissolving hyaluronic acid filler with an enzyme adds its own short-term swelling, and it works on that type of filler alone. Other filler types need a different conversation, which is why the product name matters so much. If you can, find your old treatment record before you travel.
If that sounds like your situation, add a side-on photo in daylight to your WhatsApp message, plus the month of your last injection. Then ask whether your trip has room for one step or two.

The amount comes first. More gel in one session generally means more stretch and more swelling, and a smaller first step is easier to read once it settles. Filler can usually be added on a later visit, while taking it away means another procedure.
The tool matters too. A needle makes more separate punctures, while a cannula can reach several spots through fewer entry points. We use a cannula where possible because it minimizes the vessel-damage risk of a standard needle, although some precise work on the lip border may suit a needle. Gel firmness also plays a part, so ask which product is planned and why.

Other areas don't follow this timeline. If you're adding one on the same trip, read how a dermatologist plans chin filler or under-eye filler in Seoul first. And if you tend to want more on day two, what goes wrong with cheek fillers is a useful read before you ask for extra.
What do reviews get right about lip filler swelling?
Three claims come up again and again in online reviews and forums, and they hold up to different degrees.
"Day two looks nothing like the final result." This is largely true. Early swelling can exaggerate the volume and hide the shape, so a day-two mirror check tells you little.
"Mine was gone in 24 hours, so yours will be too." Some people do settle that fast. Others take the full week, even with the same product, and a stranger's timeline can't tell you which group you'll fall into.
"Massage any lumps out yourself." Don't do this unless the doctor who treated you has told you to. A firm spot in the first few days often softens without help, and pressing on it can move fresh gel or add to the swelling.
What decides the cost of lip filler in Seoul?
Four things move the figure for your lips:
- the product you and your dermatologist choose
- the amount your lips need
- any old filler that has to be dealt with first
- how many days you can spend in Seoul, since a short trip may limit you to one step
The answer can change once your lips have been examined. To get a figure for your own case, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost, and include a photo and the name of any old filler.
Risks and side effects to know
Common reactions include swelling, bruising, tenderness and some unevenness, and they usually fade within days to a couple of weeks. Cleveland Clinic also lists cold sore reactivation, infection, asymmetry and filler migration. Recovery varies from person to person, and rare complications can happen even with careful technique.
Some people should wait or skip lip filler, generally including anyone with an active cold sore or mouth infection, and anyone who is pregnant. Tell your doctor about any cold sore history, allergies, medications and earlier filler. Cleveland Clinic also advises getting filler from an experienced provider, not at a beauty salon or spa.
The serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel. The FDA says this is uncommon but can cause tissue death, vision problems and stroke. Seek urgent care for unusual pain, vision changes, signs of stroke, or skin that turns white, gray or blue near the injection site, wherever you are.
Once you're home, a slow change is different from an urgent one. Spreading redness, fever, or a tender lump that keeps growing needs a local doctor promptly. Before you leave Seoul, write down the product name and amount, and ask how to reach the clinic after you fly home.
That is worth settling early, because the answer to lip filler how long for swelling to go down only helps if you also know who to call on day ten.
Forehead filler: what it can reshape, and when it's the wrong tool go further into what usually comes next.
What to send before you choose your dates
On WhatsApp, send front and side photos of your lips in daylight, without makeup or filters, along with your flight dates. Ask the one question that matters to your plan: how many days should you leave before you fly? Clear photos and your travel dates are enough for a first suggestion, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come to Apgujeong, a dermatologist examines your lips and recommends the plan that fits them.

Is it normal for one side of my lip to look bigger after filler?
Early on, it often is. Swelling doesn't always spread evenly, and injection points can swell differently. If it comes with unusual pain or skin color changes, seek care right away. Otherwise, the shape is easier to assess at around two weeks.
Can I fly the day after lip filler?
I can't give you one firm rule on this, but I wouldn't plan it. The first days are when you may want a doctor to look at your lips in person, so leaving about a week gives you more room.
Does ice help with lip filler swelling?
It can help. Cleveland Clinic advises an ice pack for up to 10 minutes at a time. Wrap it in a cloth and avoid pressing hard on the lips.
When can I wear lipstick or drink alcohol again?
Cleveland Clinic advises avoiding lip products, alcohol, exercise and smoking for at least 24 hours. It also advises against kissing, puckering or using a straw during early healing.
How long does lip filler last once the swelling is gone?
Cleveland Clinic says lip fillers typically last 12 to 18 months. Metabolism plays a part, and younger people may see shorter results.
