How Long Does Forehead Filler Last, and Will It Settle Before You Fly Home? Cost, Reviews, Methods and Recovery
Hyaluronic acid filler in the forehead commonly lasts from several months to a year or more, depending on product, amount and movement. Swelling usually settles within the first week, and the shape is easier to judge at about two weeks.

How long does forehead filler last, and what shortens it?
How long does forehead filler last, and will your forehead look settled before you fly home from Seoul?
Give this a few minutes before you lock in your dates.
You'll know what decides how long it lasts, which methods suit a forehead, what moves the cost, which review claims hold up, and what the first week of recovery looks like day by day. That lets you plan a trip that fits your forehead and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, Medical Director (M.D., Ph.D.) at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I'm a board-certified dermatologist and completed my residency and board certification at Seoul National University Hospital.
At WELLS, a dermatologist consults with you and treats you directly. Filler is injected with a cannula where possible, which lowers the risk of vessel damage compared with a standard needle. We've been in Apgujeong since 2008, and it is our only location.
I wrote this because people plan a short trip around how long the filler lasts, when the number that matters more for a traveler is how long the swelling lasts.
Hyaluronic acid filler in the forehead commonly lasts from several months to a year or more, depending on the product, the amount and how much your forehead moves. Swelling is much shorter: for many people it settles over the first week, and the shape is easier to judge at about two weeks.
If you're not sure your forehead is a filler case at all, send a front photo and both side views in daylight, without makeup, on WhatsApp. Ask the one thing you most want to know, such as whether your concern is volume or lines.
Send a clear photo and your travel dates, and we will tell you what fits the time you have in Seoul.
Send your forehead photos and travel dates on WhatsAppHyaluronic acid (HA) filler is a gel that your body breaks down slowly. The US Food and Drug Administration puts it plainly: how long the effect lasts depends on the filler material and the area where it is injected. That's why I avoid giving one number to everyone.
For a forehead, four things move the timeline most:
- The product. Firmer, more cross-linked gels generally hold longer than soft ones, but a firm gel isn't always right under thin forehead skin.
- The amount. A small correction fades out of view sooner, simply because there is less to lose before you notice.
- Movement. Your forehead muscle lifts your brows many times a day, and areas that move a lot tend to wear filler down faster.
- Your own tissue. Skin thickness, metabolism and age all play a part, and none of them change for a trip.
Pairing filler with an anti-wrinkle injection extends the result. The reasoning is mechanical: a quieter muscle puts less wear on the gel.
Visible volume can also fade before all the gel is gone. That matters later, because a top-up should account for what is still there.

Methods: HA filler, PLLA or an anti-wrinkle injection?
In short, these three get mixed up, and each solves a different forehead problem. Choosing the wrong one is the most common reason people feel their result didn't last.
HA filler adds volume where the forehead is flat or dented, such as a hollow above the brows or a dip in the middle. Forehead volume has to be balanced so the face doesn't look larger. If you want to see what a forehead can and can't be reshaped into, I've covered what forehead filler can reshape, and when it's the wrong tool.
PLLA, which we offer as Sculptra, works differently. It stimulates your own collagen, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons notes that results appear gradually over a few months. That makes it a poor fit if you want a finished look before next week's flight; planning Sculptra sessions around a Seoul trip walks through the timing.
An anti-wrinkle injection relaxes the muscle that creates horizontal lines. It adds no volume, so if your concern is lines rather than shape, filler may not be the tool at all.
About making a forehead smaller: filler adds, it doesn't take away. It can't lower a hairline or shorten the distance from brow to hairline. A smoother contour can change how the proportions read, and that is the limit.
Your recovery day by day, and what it means for your flight
The question “how long does forehead filler last” has a second half for a traveler: how long does the swelling last? The FDA notes that common reactions such as bruising, redness, swelling and tenderness appear soon after injection, and many resolve in a few days to weeks.
| When | What you usually notice | What to plan |
|---|---|---|
| Day 0 | Small marks at entry points, redness, a fuller look than the final shape | A quiet evening, no makeup on the entry points |
| Days 1–3 | Swelling often peaks; tenderness when you raise your brows; a bruise may show | Skip hard workouts, hot baths and heavy drinking for the first day or two |
| Days 4–7 | Swelling settles for many people; bruises turn yellow and fade | Sightseeing and photos are usually fine |
| Around week 2 | The gel has integrated with the tissue | This is the shape to judge |
The American Academy of Dermatology notes that people can return to everyday activities immediately after most fillers. So on a short trip, the limit is usually how you feel about a bruise in photos, rather than whether you can walk around Seoul.
If your flight is within a day or two of treatment, mention it at consultation. Swelling on a long flight is uncomfortable to look at, even when it is harmless.
How many days in Seoul should you plan?
Book the filler early in your stay, never on your last morning. We're open Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, with lunch from 13:00 to 14:00, and closed on Sundays and public holidays. A Saturday appointment before an evening flight is tight, and a Sunday one isn't possible.
Say you land in Seoul on a Tuesday night for six days. You'd book Wednesday morning, keep Wednesday evening quiet, and expect the most swelling on Thursday or Friday. By your flight on Sunday, swelling is often much less, though the shape may still be a week from final.
If you have a wedding or important photos soon after you get home, I'd rather you had treatment on the first full day of this trip, or on a later trip, than squeezed in before you fly. A week of margin is worth more than an extra afternoon of shopping.
If earlier filler is still in your forehead, give it more thought. Work done by non-specialists sometimes leaves lumps or uneven areas that take longer to sort out, so bring that history to a dermatologist first before anything is added on top.
If you already have dates, send them on WhatsApp with the name and date of any earlier filler. Ask one question: which day of my trip should treatment fall on?

Reading threads before a trip makes sense. A few claims come up again and again, and they're worth sorting.
- “It looked huge the first week.” Often true. Early swelling makes the forehead look fuller than the final result, which is why judging it on day two misleads people.
- “It only lasted three months.” Can be true for the visible part, especially with a small amount in a forehead that moves a lot. It isn't a rule; product and amount move it.
- “Filler never goes away.” Overstated for HA. The body breaks it down, though some gel can remain after you stop seeing it.
- “Forehead filler is risky.” Partly true, and the risk section below explains why.
Overfilled results are usually a planning problem. The same pattern shows up in other areas, as in what goes wrong with cheek filler, and how we plan cheeks.
What decides the cost of forehead filler?
There's no single figure for a forehead, because the plan varies. These are the factors that move it:
- How much product you need. Correcting one dent is a different plan from contouring the whole forehead.
- Which product. A firmer or softer HA gel, or PLLA, which is planned as a course over months.
- Old filler. If earlier filler is still there, it has to be assessed before anything is added.
- Combining treatments. Adding an anti-wrinkle injection for lines, or treating the forehead as part of a profile plan; how a dermatologist plans chin filler shows how the lower face fits in.
To get the figure for your own forehead, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case, with the photos described above.
Risks and side effects to know
Common reactions are bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness and small firm spots at the entry points. Most appear soon after injection and fade over a few days to a few weeks. The FDA also notes that some side effects can appear weeks, months or even years later.
The serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel. The FDA lists tissue death, vision problems including blindness, and stroke among reported complications, and in the US the forehead is among the areas where fillers are not approved for use. That is the reason for the cannula, and a good reason to ask which product you'd receive and what it is approved for.
For most people, it makes sense to wait or skip it with an active infection, cold sore or rash on the forehead; a recent laser or peel in the area; pregnancy or breastfeeding; a known allergy to a filler ingredient; or blood thinners and bleeding tendencies, which raise bruising.
After you fly home, sudden pain, skin turning white or dusky, or any change in vision is an emergency: go to an emergency department at once and say you had forehead filler. For slower changes, such as a lump weeks later, take photos, contact the clinic on WhatsApp and see a dermatologist at home if it hurts or spreads. Recovery and results differ from person to person.

Planning it with the dermatologist who injects you
At WELLS, a 3D analysis is done before treatment. The product and amount are confirmed before anything is injected, so you know what goes into your forehead.
If one question is still on your mind after reading, ask it on WhatsApp. A single message is enough to start, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come to Apgujeong, a dermatologist examines your forehead and recommends what fits it: HA filler, PLLA, an anti-wrinkle injection, or sometimes nothing at all.

How long does Juvederm last in the forehead?
Juvederm is a family of hyaluronic acid fillers, and products within it differ in firmness, so there is no single answer. The same factors apply as for any HA filler: product, amount, movement and your own tissue. Ask which product you would receive and what it is approved for where you are treated.
How long does forehead filler last before I need a top-up?
Many people notice volume fading somewhere between several months and a year or more. Judge the result at about two weeks, when swelling has gone, and plan any top-up only once you can see the volume has actually dropped.
Can I have forehead filler and an anti-wrinkle injection on the same trip?
Pairing them extends the filler result, because the muscle moves less. Whether both suit you, and in what order, depends on your forehead: the plan and price are confirmed only after the dermatologist examines you in Seoul.
When can I wear makeup or a cap after forehead filler?
Many dermatologists suggest leaving the entry points bare until the next day and avoiding firm pressure on the forehead, such as a tight cap or headband, for the first day or two. Ask about your own case at the visit.
Do I need to come back to Seoul for follow-up?
For HA filler, a return visit is usually about timing your next treatment when the volume fades. PLLA is planned as a course over months, so it suits people who can return or who visit Seoul regularly. If anything worrying happens at home, contact the clinic and see a local doctor.
Results and recovery vary by individual. Every treatment carries possible side effects, which are explained at the consultation. Prices are in Korean won, excluding 10% VAT, and confirmed at your consultation. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis.
