Ulthera Korea for a double chin and under-eye fullness: what helps
Dr. Won Woo Choi on how Ultherapy Prime and its dedicated eye tip are used for a double chin and under-eye laxity, and when another treatment fits better.

Can Ulthera in Korea help a double chin and under-eye fullness?
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, a board-certified dermatologist and Chief Director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I trained and was board-certified at Seoul National University Hospital, where I also completed my Ph.D. in dermatology. Patients searching Ulthera Korea often have two specific worries: a double chin and fullness under the eyes, both of which make a face look older than it feels.
The direct answer: Ultherapy can help when the problem is laxity, meaning tissue that has loosened and dropped. It focuses ultrasound into the SMAS, the deep supporting layer, and also works on the fat layer. For the under-eye area there is a dedicated eye tip. When the main issue is extra fat rather than looseness, another tool may do more.
In December 2020 the Korean health outlet Health In News ran a piece headlined, in translation, "A double chin and under-eye fat that make you look older, improved with Ulthera lifting". That article is no longer online, so I won't quote it. Instead, here is how we approach the same two concerns at WELLS today.
Why do a double chin and under-eye fullness age a face?
A clean jawline and a smooth lower eyelid are two of the first things the eye reads as youthful. As the supporting tissue loosens with age, the soft tissue under the chin and around the eyes can drift down and forward. The result is a softer jaw and a heavier lower lid, even in people who are otherwise slim.
Two different things can be going on, and they need different answers. One is laxity, where the tissue has loosened. The other is volume, where there is more fat in the area than before. Most faces have a little of both, which is why the plan starts with a look at your face rather than a fixed package.
What does Ultherapy Prime do for the lower face and jawline?
Ultherapy Prime reaches the SMAS, the same layer a surgical facelift tightens, and lifts from deep down. For a jawline that has lost its edge, we usually plan it as Ultherapy Prime FIT: Ultherapy Prime plus a second Fitting laser that works on the layer between Ultherapy and Thermage depth, so the surface contour is treated in the same visit.
| Plan | What it includes | Price |
|---|---|---|
| FIT 400 | 300 Ultherapy Prime shots + Fitting 100 kJ | ₩1,925,000 |
| FIT 500 | 400 Ultherapy Prime shots + Fitting 100 kJ | ₩2,409,000 |
Before treatment your face is analysed with a 3D imaging system, and an individualized treatment map sets the energy and shots for each area, including under the chin. Most of our patients are satisfied with their results with 300–400 shots; only about 2% of WELLS patients need 600 or more.
Send a side photo with your chin relaxed and a front photo in daylight, plus your dates. I'll tell you whether this looks like laxity, volume or both.
Send my jawline photosThe under-eye area: a dedicated eye tip
The skin around the eyes is thin, and it is close to structures that need care. That is why Eye Ultherapy uses a dedicated eye tip for under-eye laxity, rather than the tips used on the cheeks and jaw.
When the upper face is part of the concern too, we often plan 3X Upper Face Lifting. It combines Eye Thermage (450 shots) for thin eyelid skin, EMFACE (2 passes, 40 minutes) for the muscles that hold the brow line, and Eye Ultherapy (50 shots) for the deeper layer around the brow, for ₩2,500,000 (VAT excluded).

Not every under-eye bag is a lifting problem. If the fullness is mainly fat that has pushed forward, energy devices may help only partly, and the dermatologist will tell you so at consultation. My colleagues also cover the eye area in our Eye Thermage guide.
When is Ultherapy not the first tool?
If a double chin is mainly extra fat rather than looseness, a device that targets fat directly can make more sense. At WELLS that is usually one of two options.
- InMode Mini FX reduces fat under the chin, and Forma tightens with multipolar radiofrequency. It suits a heavy lower face, sagging cheeks or a double chin.
- Onda MAX uses microwave energy for a soft jawline and double chin while keeping cheek volume, from ₩700,000 (60 kJ, VAT excluded).
For more on the fat-reduction side, see our InMode double chin guide. Some faces do best with a combination, and the order matters, so that plan is made in person.
What to ask before you book Ulthera in Korea
The jaw and the eyes are two of the most delicate areas to treat with focused ultrasound, so the questions you ask matter as much as the price. These are the ones I would ask if I were the patient.
- Who performs the treatment? At WELLS a board-certified dermatologist plans it and treats you in person.
- Is the area under my chin a laxity problem, a fat problem, or both, and how did you decide?
- Which tip will be used around my eyes, and can I see it before you start?
- How many shots are planned for each area, and will you show me the count at the end?
- Will I be sedated? If yes, how will you know when the energy is too strong?
A good clinic will answer all five without hesitation. If the answer to the first is vague, or the plan is the same for every face, that tells you more than any advertisement.
For international patients, the practical side is simpler than it looks. Send your photo and dates on WhatsApp before you travel, and we reply with the plan we would expect and the listed price. On the day, consultation, 3D analysis and treatment take place on one floor, and because there is no deep sedation you can walk out and carry on with your day in Seoul.
If you have had Ultherapy before, tell us when and how many shots, and bring any notes from that clinic. It helps the dermatologist judge how the tissue has responded and whether the same plan still makes sense.
Planning an Ulthera Korea visit
WELLS is a Merz Ultherapy Golden Record Award clinic. Every session uses the Ultherapy Prime system with genuine tips, and we offer a 10× refund if a tip is ever found not to be genuine.
We don't use deep sedation. Ultherapy's own guidelines don't recommend it, because under sedation you cannot give feedback. With Air NOX non-sedation and local anesthetic you stay awake, can see the tip and shot count, and need no fasting.

We are a five-minute walk from Apgujeong Station (Line 3) Exit 3, and have been in Apgujeong since 2008. Individual results vary, and side effects are possible, which is why every treatment starts with a consultation.
Not sure whether your concern is laxity or fat? Send a photo and your dates, and a dermatologist will tell you which option fits.
Ask about my double chinLaxity, fat, or both?
Send a relaxed front and side photo and your dates in Seoul. A dermatologist will tell you whether Ultherapy, InMode, Onda MAX or a combination fits your jawline and eyes, with the listed price.

Is Ulthera Korea the same treatment as Ultherapy?
Yes. Ulthera is the name many people use for Ultherapy. At WELLS every session runs on the Ultherapy Prime system with genuine tips. Searching Ulthera Korea or Ultherapy Korea leads to the same device.
Can Ultherapy remove under-eye fat?
Ultherapy works on laxity, and Eye Ultherapy uses a dedicated eye tip. If the fullness is mainly fat, the dermatologist will tell you at consultation how much an energy device can do.
Which works better for a double chin, Ultherapy or InMode?
It depends on whether the problem is looseness or fat. Ultherapy lifts from the SMAS; InMode Mini FX reduces fat under the chin. Many faces need a plan that considers both. The dermatologist decides after seeing your face from the front and the side.
Do I need sedation?
No. WELLS uses Air NOX non-sedation with local anesthetic. You stay awake, need no fasting and can see the tip and shot count.
Results and recovery vary by individual. Every treatment carries possible side effects, which are explained at the consultation. Prices are in Korean won, excluding 10% VAT, and confirmed at your consultation. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis.
