Onda Pro Korea: Who Should Skip It? Results, Cost, Reviews and Risks
Onda microwave lifting heats the dermis and fat layer, so it can suit a soft jawline or mild double chin. It's a poor match for hollow cheeks with little fat, heavy sagging, acne scars or pigment.

What is Onda Pro, and what do I actually offer?
Worried that an Onda Pro Korea session could hollow out cheeks that are already thin?
Go through this before you fit it into your Seoul itinerary.
You'll know what results it can and can't change, what decides the cost, which review claims hold up, and who should skip it, so you can judge whether it suits your face and your budget.
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, Medical Director at WELLS Clinic.
WELLS opened in 2008, and Apgujeong is our only location. A dermatologist handles consultation and treatment here, adjusts the Onda energy to you, and decides where each tip goes.
I'm writing this because people comparing lifting devices tend to ask about the machine's name and skip a more useful question: does this face have the problem microwaves treat?
Onda heats the dermis and the fat layer, so it can suit a soft jawline or a mild double chin. I wouldn't offer it for hollow cheeks with little fat, heavy sagging, acne scars or pigment, or during pregnancy.
If you're unsure, send one daylight photo of your lower face from the side on WhatsApp and ask this: is my jawline fat, loose skin, or both?
Send a clear photo and your travel dates, and we will tell you what fits the time you have in Seoul.
Send a side photo of your jawline and your dates on WhatsAppOnda Pro is the name DEKA, an Italian device maker, uses for its microwave platform, and you'll see it on many Korean clinic pages. DEKA describes Onda as built on Coolwaves, a microwave technology for body contouring. The energy passes through the surface with little loss, heating the dermis and fat while the surface is cooled.
At WELLS, the treatment on my menu is listed as Onda MAX, so I won't describe an Onda Pro package as something we offer. When you compare any Onda Pro Korea clinic, ask which device and which handpiece will be used on your face, and what energy they're planning. Those answers tell you more than the name on a banner.
Onda MAX uses a 3 mm tip that works in the dermis and a 7 mm tip that reaches the fat layer of the jaw and chin. We also apply our own Detology cream, made with collagen peptide and CeraXosome, in place of the usual jojoba oil.

What results can Onda change?
Two things, mainly: a modest amount of fat under and along the jaw, and looseness in the skin above it. Heat in the dermis prompts collagen remodeling, which takes weeks and doesn't show on the day. Any firmness you notice in the mirror that first evening may be partly temporary swelling.
The evidence is stronger for the body than for the face. The Onda Coolwaves advisory board recommendations and a 2024 clinical evidence review center on localized fat, laxity and cellulite. Facial use is popular in Korea, but I'd treat claims about the face with more caution, and ask anyone quoting a percentage where it came from.
The device won't rebuild lost volume in the mid-face or lift a heavy fold of skin. It also does nothing useful for pigment or scars. Results differ from person to person, and I can't promise a set degree of lift.
When I wouldn't offer it
In short, this is the section I'd want a parent of mine to read. Heat aimed at a fat layer needs some fat to work on, and a lean face at 60 may have little to spare.
| What you see | Why Onda may miss | What to raise instead |
|---|---|---|
| Flat or hollow cheeks | Volume is the problem | Fillers or Sculptra |
| Heavy jowls, deep folds | Too much skin to tighten | Thread lift or a surgical opinion |
| Pitted acne scars | Scars sit in the dermis | Scar-specific treatment |
| Melasma or brown spots | Pigment needs its own plan | Pico lasers, after diagnosis |
For pitted scars, read about acne scar treatment planned around a Seoul trip or Juvelook for scars. Pores and fine texture may fit microneedle RF options better, though microneedling brings a few days of visible redness for many people. If pigment is what bothers you, laser toning and the factors behind its cost is a closer starting point, and PicoSure Pro is the 755 nm picosecond laser we have for pigment work.
Say you're 58, lean-faced, visiting Seoul with your daughter for ten days, and bothered by soft jowls while your upper cheeks are already flat. I'd want to know how much of that jowl is fat and how much is loose skin. If it's mostly skin with little fat, I'd keep energy away from the cheeks and might not offer Onda at all. A thread lift could enter the conversation, where length, direction and depth are tailored to skin thickness and sagging, though dimpling and infection are its known risks.
What can go wrong after microwave lifting?
Most days after treatment are uneventful, and that's why the rarer problems deserve a plain description.
Risks and side effects to know
With Onda MAX, the surface is cooled during treatment, most patients finish without numbing cream, and mild redness usually fades within hours. Swelling, tenderness and small firm areas under the skin can also appear with energy devices in general, usually for days to a few weeks. Less often, heat can cause a burn, temporary numbness or more fat loss than you wanted.
As general medicine, these are reasons to wait or skip it, so bring them up first:
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
- a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device
- metal implants in the treatment area
- infection, an open wound or a flaring skin condition at the site
- a recent filler, thread or other procedure in the same area
- poor sensation in the area, or a history of poor healing
If you're home and notice blistering, spreading redness, increasing pain or numbness that doesn't improve, see a local dermatologist and show them the treatment date, area and device name. The US CDC's advice on medical tourism includes keeping your records and arranging follow-up before you travel. Pack those notes with your passport.
If this section raised a question about your own history, write it down and send it on WhatsApp with a list of past procedures on your face, including the year of any filler or threads.
Send a clear photo and your travel dates, and we will tell you what fits the time you have in Seoul.

What reviews of Onda lifting in Seoul get right
I can't speak to any single post, but the same few claims keep appearing in public reviews.
- It barely hurts. Partly true. Many people manage without numbing, though pain tolerance differs and hot spots along the jaw aren't unusual.
- There's no downtime. Often close to true for daily life, but swelling or tender patches can last longer than a redness-only story suggests.
- It caved in my cheeks. Possible in principle where energy goes into a fat layer that was already thin. That's why placement and energy matter so much.
- My fat melted after one session. Overstated. Fat change takes time, and a single session rarely answers it on the first morning.
Facial results also blur together with weight changes and time of day, so a photo taken on a good morning proves little.
What decides the cost of Onda in Seoul?
Five things shape the figure for your own case.
- Energy: Onda MAX is planned at 60, 80 or 100 kJ.
- Area: the jawline, the full lower face, or the body.
- Program: face alone, or body work such as V-OLET with Onda, where settings are decided per area because body skin is thicker and recovers at a different pace.
- Sessions: whether you plan one visit or a repeat.
- Travel: how many days you'll spend in Seoul if you add a return trip.
Listed prices exclude VAT and are confirmed at consultation. Ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case, with a side photo of the area you'd treat.
How does it fit a family trip to Seoul?
For many people, Onda MAX fits around normal activity afterward, so you don't need to clear a whole week. Mondays to Fridays run 10:00–20:00 and Saturdays 10:00–17:00, with a lunch break from 13:00 to 14:00, and we're closed on Sundays and holidays. Apgujeong Station Exit 3 on Line 3 is a 5-minute walk away.
I'd avoid scheduling it the day before your flight, in case you develop swelling and want a dermatologist to look at it. If you're booking for a parent, have them write down their medications and implants beforehand, since those answers can settle the question quickly.
The next step is small. Send one side photo of your jawline on WhatsApp with your dates in Seoul, and ask whether Onda or something else makes sense for that face. One photo is enough, and you can ask before booking anything. When you come in, a dermatologist examines your skin and recommends the treatment that fits, whether that's an Onda Pro Korea option like ours or a different tool.

Is Onda the same as Ultherapy?
No. Onda uses microwave energy in the dermis and fat layer, while Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound at the SMAS layer. They treat different tissue, so the choice follows your anatomy.
Do I need numbing cream for Onda MAX?
Most patients finish without it because the surface is cooled during treatment. Pain tolerance differs, and the dermatologist adjusts the energy to you.
Can I have Onda if I've had filler or threads?
Tell your dermatologist the product, area and date first. Heat near recent work is something to plan around, and the timing is an individual call.
Can I have Onda during pregnancy?
I'd postpone it. Elective energy-based treatments are generally deferred during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and nothing about a soft jawline is urgent.
Is Onda used on the body as well as the face?
Yes. Published work centers on body fat, laxity and cellulite. At WELLS, a body program combines V-OLET, a deoxycholic acid injection, with Onda for the lower abdomen or upper arms.
Results and recovery vary by individual. Every treatment carries possible side effects, which are explained at the consultation. Prices are in Korean won, excluding 10% VAT, and confirmed at your consultation. This article is general information from the clinic, not a diagnosis.
