InMode FX explained: how Mini FX targets fat, and who it suits

What is InMode FX?

Hello, I'm Dr. Hyo Seop Ryu, a board-certified dermatologist and chief director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I hold an M.D., Ph.D., and I have served as a clinical instructor and assistant professor in dermatology at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. Patients often ask me about InMode FX: what does InMode do, and is FX a fat treatment, a lifting treatment or both?

InMode FX is the fat-focused mode of the InMode device. On our menu it appears as Mini FX, which delivers high-voltage pulse energy at 45–47 °C to break down unwanted fat and lift the SMAS layer, to address fullness under the chin and improve jawline definition.

At WELLS it is part of InMode Lifting, where Mini FX is paired with Forma, a multipolar RF mode for tightening. This explainer is about the FX side: how it works, who it suits, and what to expect.

How InMode FX works on fat

InMode fat reduction is different from what most people picture, because many fat treatments aim to shrink fat cells. Mini FX delivers high-voltage pulse energy directly into the fat layer, and rather than merely shrinking the cells, it induces fat-cell death, which is why it is used to tidy up a double chin and heavy, sagging cheeks.

The handpiece draws the tissue in with suction while the current is delivered. That is also why you feel it: strong pressure and a brief, hot sensation are part of the FX mode, rather than a sign that something is wrong.

No incision is made, and no foreign material is left behind. What changes is the amount of fat in the treated area and, through the SMAS effect, how firmly the contour sits.

Mini FX and Forma: why the two modes are paired

Removing fat from under the chin solves only half of the problem if the skin over it is loose. That is why InMode at WELLS uses two modes in one device, each working on a different layer.

Forma delivers multipolar RF deep into the dermis to stimulate collagen and elastin. Alongside the fat reduction, that collagen side can bring smoother texture and a brighter tone, and firmness builds gradually through internal remodelling rather than all at once.

Who InMode FX suits, and who I would steer elsewhere

The patients I have in mind for InMode FX usually describe the same thing: a face that looks heavier at the bottom than it used to. It tends to suit:

• A double chin, or a contour that has blurred as firmness dropped
• Jowls or cheek fat that make the lower face look heavy
• People who want smoother contours without bone surgery
• Those who want firmness and fine lines improved at the same time

It is a poorer fit when the problem isn't fat. If your cheeks are already thin or you've lost volume, taking fat away is the wrong direction; a collagen-stimulating injectable such as Sculptra addresses volume instead.

What InMode FX feels like, and the days after

During the session, expect pressure from the suction and a short burst of heat with each pulse. InMode doesn't need anesthesia, and the dermatologist adjusts the energy as you go.

Mild redness or bruising may appear right after treatment. For many people it fades over the following days, and you can return to daily life straight away, but suction-based treatment can leave marks for a while, so tell us about any event or flight when you book.

Results are not a one-day change. The fat side and the collagen side both work over time, and the number of sessions is something the dermatologist sets after seeing your face. Individual results vary, and side effects are possible.

InMode before and after: what to look for

When people search InMode before and after, they usually want to know what changes and where. With InMode FX, look at the contour under the chin and along the jaw, because that is where the fat is being reduced.

With Forma, look at firmness and texture, which improve gradually as the skin remodels. The change builds over time rather than appearing on the day, so judge the result over the following weeks, not in the mirror on the way out.

Why operator skill matters more than the device

Every clinic with an InMode has the same handpieces. What differs is how the energy is used, and InMode results differ clearly from one operator to the next.

Fat volume and skin thickness vary from person to person, so energy delivery time and intensity have to be fine-tuned for each area. Too little and the result is weak; too much and the risk of a burn rises.
