Eyebrow tattoo removal Korea: fading old brows with pico lasers
Why old brow tattoos turn blue, red or grey, how picosecond lasers fade them on the face, and how to plan removal sessions around a trip to Seoul.

Eyebrow tattoo removal Korea: what we do, and what we do not
Hello, I'm Dr. Hyo Seop Ryu, a board-certified dermatologist (M.D., Ph.D.) and a chief director at WELLS in Apgujeong. Before I go further, one point to be clear about. WELLS removes semi-permanent makeup; we do not apply it. If you are looking for an eyebrow tattoo in Korea, meaning new brows, this is not the right clinic, but if you want old brows gone or lightened, it is exactly what we treat.
Most people who search eyebrow tattoo removal Korea have brows that were done years ago and no longer look right. The colour has drifted to blue, red or grey, or the shape has gone out of style and makeup cannot hide it. The worry is usually the same: can it come off the face without leaving a mark?
In this post I will explain why brow pigment changes colour, how picosecond lasers remove it on facial skin, and how removal sessions can fit around a visit to Seoul.
Why does an old eyebrow tattoo turn blue, red or grey?
An eyebrow tattoo is often done in a soft brown or dark grey. Over time, the pigment can generally break down unevenly in the skin, and the colour that remains is often not the colour that went in. That is why so many old brows end up looking blue-grey or reddish.
Semi-permanent pigments are usually blue, red or grey, and that matters for removal. They need different wavelengths from a black body tattoo, so a single setting used for everything rarely clears them well.
The same applies to an eyeliner tattoo. It sits even closer to the eye, so the dermatologist takes a more conservative approach there and protects the eye throughout the treatment.
How picosecond lasers remove eyebrow and eyeliner tattoos
A laser does not lift pigment out of the skin. It shatters the pigment into fine particles, and the body's immune cells and lymphatic vessels clear those particles over the following weeks. Picosecond pulses are 1,000 times shorter than older Q-switched lasers, so the pigment breaks more finely while less energy reaches the surrounding skin.
At WELLS we use PicoSure Pro, a 755 nm picosecond laser that is FDA and KFDA approved, together with 1064 nm and 532 nm wavelengths. Having all three means each pigment colour can be matched to the wavelength that responds to it.
| Wavelength | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| 532 nm | Superficial red and lighter-coloured pigment |
| 1064 nm | Black and deeper pigment |
| 755 nm (PicoSure) | Colours that other wavelengths tend to leave behind |
Because only the abnormal pigment is targeted, the risk of scarring, raised marks or discolouration is low. That is the main reason I prefer a picosecond approach for the face. You can read more on our permanent makeup removal page.

Eyebrow tattoo removal Korea: how many sessions, and planning them around a trip
Fading varies with the pigment colour, density and depth. A light, faded brow may respond quickly; dense or layered work, where brows were redone on top of older ones, usually takes longer. The dermatologist sets the number of sessions after examining the brows.
Sessions are spaced weeks apart, not days, because the body needs time to clear the broken-down pigment. For most visitors, that means starting eyebrow tattoo removal on one trip and continuing on the next, or at home.
- One trip: a first session in Seoul, which also shows how your pigment responds.
- Regular visits: we match each session to your trips, and the dermatologist checks the gap is long enough.
- A longer stay: several sessions at the interval the dermatologist recommends.
One more thing to tell us: whether anyone has already tried to remove the brows. Work done by non-specialists sometimes leaves marks that take longer to treat, so the dermatologist should see that history first.
Send a close-up photo of your brows in daylight and your travel dates. We will tell you how a first session could fit.
Send a brow photoKorea eyebrow tattoo price vs removal cost at WELLS
Many searches for eyebrow tattoo cost Korea or eyebrow tattoo Seoul are about getting brows done. Since we only remove them, the price I can speak to is removal. For permanent makeup removal, the price is confirmed at your consultation, because it depends on the pigment colour, how dense it is, and how many sessions it is likely to need.
A clear photo taken in natural light, without makeup, helps us explain the likely approach before you fly. The dermatologist confirms the plan and the final price in person, before anything starts.
If you also have a body tattoo you want gone, the same lasers are used there; the outline is on our tattoo removal page, and every option sits under tattoo and makeup removal.
When the brow position is the real concern
Sometimes, once the old pigment fades, a patient realises the problem was never only the tattoo. The brow itself has dropped, or the upper eyelid feels heavy, and the tattoo had been drawn higher to compensate.
For that, we look at the upper face rather than the pigment. Our 3X Upper Face Lifting combines Eye Thermage, EMFACE and Eye Ultherapy to address a dropped brow line and heavy lids without incisions. One session is ₩2,500,000 (VAT excluded), and the dermatologist decides at consultation whether it suits you.
Some people also ask about an eyebrow transplant in Korea. That is a surgical hair procedure, a separate question from laser removal, and I would treat it as its own decision after the old pigment has been dealt with.
Your visit to WELLS and aftercare on the face
You can plan the visit entirely in English. Message us on WhatsApp with a photo and your dates, and we reply with options and available times. At the clinic, a dermatologist examines the brows, chooses the wavelengths and confirms the plan and price, and the treatment is done in the same clinic.

I trained as a clinical instructor and later assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and I have been a visiting professor at Dubai Maris Clinic through International St. Mary's Hospital. You can read about our team on the doctors page.
After a session, treat the brow area gently. Use sunscreen of SPF 30+ and PA+++ or higher and reapply outdoors every 2–3 hours, and for about a week avoid saunas, jjimjilbang, alcohol and heavy exercise that heat the face. Keep peels, scrubs, retinol and strong vitamin C away from the brows for about a week.
