Korean Filler Brands: Why I Choose the Category Before the Name
Comparing Korean filler brands? Dr. Choi explains why the category of product matters before the brand, and what to confirm about any vial.

Korean filler brands: where to start
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, a board-certified dermatologist and Chief Director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I trained at Seoul National University Hospital, hold a Ph.D. in dermatology from Seoul National University, and am an adjunct professor in its department of dermatology.
Visitors often send me lists of Korean filler brands and ask which one is best. I understand why: the names are everywhere, and it feels like the brand is the decision.
My answer is that the category of product matters before the brand. A hyaluronic acid filler, a collagen stimulator such as Sculptra and a skin booster such as Rejuran do three different jobs. Once the category is right, the brand question becomes much simpler, and what matters most is that the product is genuine and the amount is confirmed.
This post uses a year-end self-care feature from the WELLS press archive as its starting point, because it makes the same argument from the patient's side: home care first, then the right clinic treatment, then the right product used properly.
A year-end self-care story, and where clinic treatment fits
In December 2020, Psychiatric News (정신의학신문) ran a feature on year-end self-care that WELLS keeps in its press archive. With gatherings cancelled, many people turned to looking after themselves at home, and skin tired from a year of masks was high on the list.
The feature's home-care advice was sensible. Reduce irritation, cleanse carefully to keep skin clean under a mask, and moisturize well after washing. For oily skin it suggested a lighter gel moisturizer rather than skipping moisturizer altogether.
It also looked beyond the face: keep indoor humidity steady, don't let heater air blow directly onto the skin, drink enough water and keep caffeine moderate. When home care alone isn't enough, it said, a dermatology treatment is worth considering, and it used Sculptra as its example.

Three categories that are often all called 'filler'
| Category | Example at WELLS | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Hyaluronic acid filler | Dermal fillers | Adds volume at once in a planned area |
| Collagen stimulator | Sculptra, Juvelook | Prompts your own collagen; changes build over time |
| Skin booster | Rejuran HB+ | Improves skin quality, elasticity and hydration |
Hyaluronic acid filler in Korea, collagen stimulators and skin boosters often appear on the same price list under one heading, which is where much of the confusion about brands begins. The table shows how differently they behave.
A hyaluronic acid filler gives an immediate change. On our dermal fillers page, volume is planned across the forehead, under-eyes, nasolabial folds, cheeks and chin, and nasolabial folds use a large-particle, long-lasting filler.
A collagen stimulator works more slowly. The feature described Sculptra as a PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid) injection that lets volume fill in naturally while strengthening elasticity. Juvelook, a KFDA-approved PLA with hyaluronic acid, is listed on our scar page for filling depressed scars.
A skin booster is not a filler at all. Rejuran HB+ combines salmon-derived polynucleotide with hyaluronic acid and lidocaine to improve skin quality, with four sessions at two-to-three-week intervals recommended.
The skin booster vs filler distinction is the one people most often miss. If your skin looks tired rather than hollow, adding volume will not make it look rested, and a booster series may be the better first step.
What to confirm about any brand
The Psychiatric News feature made a point I agree with completely. The result of Sculptra can differ with the amount of PLLA and with the way it is injected, so for a safe, satisfying result you should use genuine product at the full dose and choose a clinic with real clinical experience.
That rule applies across Korean filler brands. Whatever name is on the box, ask these questions before treatment.
- Which product is this, and can I see the box or syringe?
- Is it genuine and approved for use in Korea?
- How much will be used, and in which areas?
- Who will inject it: a board-certified dermatologist?
- How will my face be assessed before planning?
At WELLS we confirm the product and amount before treatment. Every Sculptra vial is guaranteed genuine.
Dr. Lee, Dr. Ryu and I completed Handok's Sculptra hands-on training program. Our filler dermatologists inject with a cannula where possible, which minimizes the vessel-damage risk of a standard needle.
Genuine product and an amount confirmed in advance are what make two brands comparable at all. Without them, a brand name on a menu tells you very little about what will actually go into your face.
Have a list of brands you're considering? Send it with a photo and your dates, and a dermatologist will tell you which category suits your concern.
Ask which product suits meHow I choose between categories
I start with what the patient sees in the mirror. A deep fold or a small chin is a volume question, and hyaluronic acid filler answers it quickly. Hollow temples or a softening contour are support questions, where our own Sculptra Lifting often suits better; one session is listed at ₩1,320,000 (VAT excluded).
Dull, thin or tired skin is a quality question, and a skin booster is the right category. Many faces have more than one of these at once, which is why the plan usually matters more than any single brand.

Why the brand question is so common in Korea
Korea makes and sells many injectable products, so menus here list more names than visitors are used to seeing. It is natural to assume that a longer list means you need to pick a winner from it.
In practice the differences between reputable products in the same category are smaller than the differences between categories. Choosing a booster when you needed volume, or filler when you needed support, will matter far more than which brand of filler you chose.
So I suggest you treat brand names as the last step of the decision. First agree with the dermatologist on the problem, then on the category, then on the specific product and amount. If a clinic starts with the brand and a discount, that order has been reversed.
Planning injectables on a trip to Seoul
Timing differs by category. Hyaluronic acid filler shows its effect right away; Sculptra builds over the following months; Rejuran HB+ is recommended as a series. Tell us your dates and we will say what is realistic in the time you have.
If you have had injectables before, tell us what was used and when, even if you only remember the brand. That history helps the dermatologist decide whether to add, wait or choose a different category this time. Our consultations are available in English, and the clinic is a five-minute walk from Exit 3 of Apgujeong Station on Line 3.
Prices at WELLS are listed in Korean won, exclude 10% VAT and are confirmed at consultation before anything starts, so you will know the product, the amount and the cost before you agree.

Which Korean filler brands does WELLS use?
We choose the category first, then confirm the specific product and amount with you before treatment. You can ask to see the box or syringe.
Is Sculptra a filler?
Sculptra is a collagen stimulator rather than a gel filler. It prompts your own collagen, so the change builds over the following months.
Is Rejuran a filler?
No. Rejuran HB+ is a skin booster that improves skin quality, elasticity and hydration rather than adding volume.
How much is Sculptra Lifting at WELLS?
One session is listed at ₩1,320,000 (VAT excluded). Filler pricing is confirmed at consultation.
