Is Thermage popular in Korea? Why visitors choose Collagen MAX
Dr. Choi on why Thermage is a familiar choice in Korea, what Korean patients expect from it, and how the Collagen MAX approach at WELLS builds collagen support around Thermage FLX.

Is Thermage popular in Korea? My short answer
Hello, I'm Dr. Won Woo Choi, a board-certified dermatologist and Chief Director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I trained and earned my Ph.D. in dermatology at Seoul National University, where I am also an adjunct professor at the university hospital.
Patients who write to us from abroad often ask a version of the same question: is Thermage popular in Korea, and if so, why do people here keep choosing it?
My short answer is yes, Thermage is a familiar name for both Seoul locals and overseas visitors. But the more useful answer is why. In Korea, patients rarely want the device alone; they want a plan built around their own skin. At WELLS that plan is Collagen MAX Thermage, which wraps Thermage FLX in diagnosis and collagen support.
In October 2025 I spoke to Dong-A Edu (동아일보 교육) about why anti-aging treatments often disappoint, and why we pair Thermage FLX with steps that support collagen. That interview explains the Korean approach better than any ranking, so I will walk through it here.
What I told Dong-A Edu about collagen and Thermage FLX
The article's point was simple. Many people try an anti-aging treatment and feel the result fell short. In my view the usual reasons are that the plan did not match their skin type and degree of ageing, and that not enough attention went to collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm.
Thermage FLX uses monopolar radiofrequency to heat the dermis. The heat tightens existing collagen fibres, and new collagen builds over the following weeks. The article described this as reaching a wider area with deeper energy, which helps firmness and a sense of volume.
The second half of the interview was about doing more for collagen in the same session. That is what we call Collagen MAX Thermage: the same Thermage FLX, with an infusion before treatment that supports collagen production. I told the reporter that because two things happen at once, an accurate 1:1 diagnosis by a dermatologist matters more, not less.
Why Korean locals and visitors choose Thermage
When people ask whether Thermage is popular in Korea, they are usually really asking whether it is worth planning a trip around. From what I see in clinic, a few reasons come up again and again.
- It is non-surgical. Thermage FLX works through the skin with radiofrequency, so there is no incision and you can go back to your day.
- It suits a short trip. Plan for about two hours in clinic, with no fasting and no deep sedation at WELLS.
- Results build after you leave. Changes typically begin about two weeks after treatment, so you notice them at home.
- Dermatologists treat in person. At WELLS, consultation and treatment are done by board-certified dermatologists.
- You can check what you pay for. Genuine tips and a visible shot count are part of the visit.
The listed prices are part of the picture too: Thermage MAX is ₩3,465,000 for 600 shots and ₩4,477,000 for 900 shots (VAT excluded). For how the number is built, see my colleagues' guide to Thermage cost in Seoul, and the full protocol on our Thermage MAX page.

Ask if Thermage suits meThe Collagen MAX approach: diagnose, protect, boost
Thermage heats skin into a range where collagen-making cells, the fibroblasts, are stressed. The Collagen MAX approach adds three steps around the same device: diagnose, protect and boost. This is the part of the Korean approach I explained to Dong-A Edu.
Diagnose: a skin microbiome test
We read your skin's oil and moisture levels, microbial diversity, barrier health and inflammation tendency. When you come back a year later for Thermage, we repeat it and compare.
Protect: AQ MAX infusion
Two bottles of alanyl-glutamine are infused before treatment to help fibroblasts cope with the heat. In WELLS lab tests, at 55 °C about 49% of cells survived with AQ, compared with about 25% without it. These are laboratory cell results, not results in people.

Boost: collagen-peptide serum
We apply the serum while the FLX handpiece works. It changes the skin's electrical conductivity to ease the sting, and its collagen peptides support collagen synthesis.
Why Korean clinics tailor Thermage to each face
The area is the main factor in a plan. On average, 600 shots cover the cheeks and jawline, and 900 shots cover the full face and neck. Thickness of the skin and how much laxity there is also change how I place the energy, which is why I talked to Dong-A Edu about a 1:1 diagnosis.
Before treatment, a 3D skin scan maps where to focus. We confirm the shot count with you before and after treatment, and use every last shot. Because you stay awake, you can see the tip and the counter yourself.
If your main concern is a heavy jawline or deeper sagging, Thermage may not be the right tool on its own. I explain the alternatives in Thermage vs Ultherapy.
What to look for when you choose Thermage in Seoul
A treatment being popular is not a reason on its own to choose a clinic. Before you book Thermage anywhere in Seoul, ask the same four questions.
- How many shots, and on which areas? A 900-shot plan is not the same treatment as 600 shots on a smaller area.
- Is the tip genuine, and will I see the shot counter?
- Who treats me: a dermatologist in person, or someone else?
- What is included besides the RF session: diagnosis, serum, follow-up?
Popularity only means something if the shots are genuine and placed where your skin needs them. That is the standard I would want for my own family, and it is the standard we hold at WELLS.
If you also want the standard version without the infusion and microbiome test, read about Collagen Booster Thermage FLX. It is priced at consultation.
One more practical point: prices at WELLS are in Korean won and exclude 10% VAT. We give you the final figure at the consultation, before anything starts, so there is no surprise at the desk.
Safety, comfort and genuine tips
Thermage creates a hot, stinging feeling. We use numbing cream, local anesthesia and the booster serum to ease it, and Air NOX is available. WELLS does not use deep sedation for Thermage, so no fasting is needed and you can drive afterwards.
Only genuine Thermage tips are used. You see the tip's ID card before we start, and if a tip is ever found not to be genuine, WELLS refunds ten times the treatment price. Normal and abnormal reactions are covered in Thermage side effects.
