Is Sculptra Popular in Korea? Yes, Mostly as Part of a Combined Plan
Is Sculptra popular in Korea? It is, but rarely on its own. Dr. Ryu explains how volume and lifting treatments are combined, and why experience matters.

Is Sculptra popular in Korea?
Hello, I'm Dr. Hyo Seop Ryu, a board-certified dermatologist and Chief Director at WELLS Clinic in Apgujeong, Seoul. I hold an M.D. and Ph.D., and I was an assistant professor at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital before joining WELLS.
Is Sculptra popular in Korea? It is a question I hear from patients abroad who see it on almost every Seoul clinic menu.
The direct answer: yes, and in Korea it is most often used as one part of a combined anti-aging plan, alongside lifting devices such as Ultherapy and Thermage. Patients here tend to think of volume and lift as two halves of the same goal.
I discussed this trend with Segye Biz (세계비즈) in December 2022, in an article titled 'Combination anti-aging treatment: the medical team's experience makes the difference in satisfaction'. This post explains what that means if you are planning treatment in Seoul.
Why combination treatment became the Korean approach
Anti-aging options range widely: injections, lasers, threads and, at the far end, facial contouring surgery. Each tool addresses one part of aging well and leaves another part untouched.
As the article described, interest has grown in combining Ultherapy, Thermage FLX, InMode and Sculptra so that each one covers what the others cannot. Combined well, you use the strength of each treatment instead of asking one of them to do everything.
That is a large part of the reason Sculptra is popular in Korea. On its own it rebuilds volume slowly through your own collagen. Next to a lifting device that tightens and lifts, it fills the part of aging that heat and ultrasound do not reach.
An anti-aging combination in Korea is not a fixed menu. It is a sequence chosen for one face: what is sagging, what has thinned, what has hollowed, and how much time the patient has. The same three products can make a very different plan for two people of the same age.
Ultherapy and Thermage: two lifts that do different things
The most common pairing in Korea is Ultherapy with Thermage. They are both called lifting treatments, but in the interview I stressed that their effects and target areas differ.
| Ultherapy | Thermage | |
|---|---|---|
| Energy | Focused ultrasound | Radiofrequency (RF) heat |
| Main target | The deep supporting (SMAS) layer | The dermis |
| Best at | Lifting sagging tissue | Collagen remodeling and elasticity |
An Ultherapy and Thermage combination works because the two devices reach different depths. Ultrasound reaches the deep supporting layer that surgery would tighten, while RF heat works in the dermis where collagen sits closer to the surface. Used together, they address lift and firmness at the same time.
At WELLS, our Ultherapy Prime FIT and Thermage protocols are planned with 3D imaging. FIT 400 is listed at ₩1,925,000 (VAT excluded). For many faces, though, lift and firmness alone leave hollow areas behind.

Where Sculptra comes in
In the article I noted that when cheeks are hollow or the nasolabial folds are deep, adding a volume treatment such as Sculptra, filler or Juvelook makes the combined plan more effective. Lifting moves tissue; volume replaces what has been lost.
Sculptra with Ultherapy is the pairing I discuss most often with visitors. The ultrasound lifts the deep layer; Sculptra then supports the contour from above and rebuilds volume over the following months. The device acts quickly, and the collagen stimulator keeps working after you fly home.
At WELLS the volume step is often our own Sculptra Lifting. Instead of filling the area that sags, we place Sculptra at the temples and upper face to support tissue upward along the face's natural lifting vectors. One session is listed at ₩1,320,000 (VAT excluded).
Our Sculptra Lifting page answers the combination question directly: lifting devices and Sculptra act on different layers, so combinations are common, and the dermatologist plans the order and timing at consultation. Our Sculptra page adds that combined with a thread lift, Sculptra can give a longer-lasting result.
Wondering whether a combined plan suits you? Send a daylight photo and your dates, and a dermatologist will suggest an order that fits your trip.
Ask about a combined planWhy experience decides how a combination turns out
Combining treatments raises the stakes. In the interview I listed what has to be considered: current skin condition, the degree of aging and even the direction of the wrinkles.
Energy has to be set at the right intensity and the handpiece pressure chosen for the face. That is how heat, burning sensation, pain, swelling, blisters and redness are prevented. The doctor's experience and precision have a very large influence on the result.
At WELLS a dermatologist consults and treats. We use only genuine Ultherapy and Thermage tips, and every Sculptra vial is genuine.
Our three chief directors completed Handok's Sculptra hands-on training program. That shared training matters in a combined plan, because whoever plans the lifting step also understands how the volume step will behave.
We do not use deep sedation for lifting. Air NOX with local anesthetic keeps you awake, so you can see the tip and the shot count yourself.
Don't choose by discount
The line from that article I repeat most often is this: even though combination anti-aging is offered at many clinics, don't be swayed by discounts or promotional events.
Understand what each treatment does and where, and see a dermatologist with solid anatomical knowledge and broad clinical experience who can tailor the plan. For safety, that consultation matters more than anything on the price list.
If you are coming from abroad, that advice also applies to the schedule. A combination planned for your face should be planned around your dates, not squeezed into a package because the package exists.

Who a Sculptra combination treatment suits
A Sculptra combination treatment tends to suit people who notice two things at once: the face looks lower than it used to, and certain areas look emptier. Hollow temples with a heavier jawline is a common example, and so is a flatter upper face with deeper folds beside the mouth.
It suits people less when only one of those is true. If the main change is laxity with no real volume loss, a lifting device alone may be enough. If volume loss is the only issue, Sculptra Lifting on its own may be the cleaner choice.
I would always rather start smaller and add a step later than over-treat on a first visit. That is especially true for overseas patients, who see the collagen-building part of the result after they have already gone home.
